Same dynamics at play that made us all forget that Mesar is a prospect we have.
Just my opinion, Mesar never plays for the Habs.

I agree that sending him back to the NCAA is not necessarily a bad idea, but I am worried that he is one of the better players on a weak team and might end up developing bad habits as he tries to do to much on his own.
I see your concern. Remember that Michigan is one of the best programs in the country. They will have more talent next year to play with him. They won’t accept mediocrity for long

I think Xhekaj was undoubtedly rushed. He went straight from OHL to NHL and was relied on as our only physical presence. That was way too much to ask for from an undrafted kid.

We watched Barron suck for 50 games in the NHL last year when he was still AHL eligible.

Struble played 13 games in the AHL and got called up for the rest of the season and has since regressed.

Most of our “rushing” is a result of our terrible roster where we’ve had 3-5 rookies on defense every year. A team that is deeper and better doesn’t call up 4 rookies to play defense for the NHL team.
that is wat Hugo is working towards. the day we can leave players in NCAA, AHL or europe (1st rounders even) is when we can consider ourselves a contender.

Man o man.....if Hage and Demidov can hit....we could be in business.

What does everyone think? What is the likelihood Hage is a top 6 Centre? Does he arrive 26/27 season?

The likelihood of him being a 2nd line player is pretty high, he might shift to the wing, but the skating, the hands and the playmaking/shot all look very very good.

Hage is the kind of player we would have been hyping up way more if we didn't have so many other young stars and elite prospects. This guy is doing better than Caufield and it's not like he has some powerhouse team around him.

Yeah agreed. Sometimes with prospects, it's hard to get a good read if they're playing with other really good players, especially if they're all racking up points. Hage is basically on an island by himself. To be honest, i'd almost rather that than for him to be playing on a power house team.

Updated stats of players picked around the same spot as Hage in the last draft:

18th- Sacha Boisvert- 28 GP, 9 G, 11 A= 20 PTS (0.71 PtPG)
19th- Trevor Connelly- 17 GP, 4 G, 8 A= 12 PTS (0.71 PtPG)
20th- Cole Eiserman- 28 GP, 16 G, 8 A= 24 PTS (0.86 PtPG)
21st- Michael Hage- 29 GP, 13 G, 19 A= 32 PTS (1.10 PtPG)

Also compared to 2025 draft eligible James Hagens.

James Hagens- 29 GP, 8 G, 23 A= 31 PTS (01.07 PtPG)

He’s getting all the best offensive situations to produce though what he wouldn’t have in a stack team.
That's another way to look at it.

Although I do think that being on a stacked team has more advantages and that you can still get top playing time. It's just that you're getting it with better players like last year with Perreault, Leonard and Smith. Hagens is also a good example as he's getting plenty of playing time. He's playing an average of 18:50 per game and Hage is playing an average of 16:08 per game.

Hagens doesn't play with Perreault and Leonard though. Some plug centres that line.
