Both things can be true.

The 1989 Habs were at least as good as the 1986 and 1993 Habs.

But Calgary was also the slightly better team in 1989.
Montreal handles the Flames in 1989 (in my opinion) if Doug Gilmour wasn’t gift wrapped to Calgary because of his “alleged” proclivities with his underage babysitter. The Blues just wanted him gone (since they were named in the civil suit filed by the girls parents), and sent him and Mark Hunter to Calgary for Mike Bullard, Craig Coxe and some other filler that I cannot recall.

This was the move that won the Flames the Cup, Gilmour was a man possessed against the Habs. The SOB had half of his total playoff goals for the entire post season in that series, and was all over the ice. He was hitting, playing dirty, setting up goals, playing like a superstar. I hated him. He had gotten a second chance and used it to beat the Habs, scoring two goals in the last game to clinch the Cup. I still don’t like him now if I’m being honest.

I despise Lanny McDonald too.

While it would've been great for Hage to have McG on his wing this year, him going to Pitt creates even more need for the Wolves to lean on Hage offensively. He could be in for a monster year!
Yeah, no Mcgroarty, no Nazar, no Brindley.

We’ll see how he adapts, it’s gonna be interesting!

McG, Brindley, Duke and Nazar all turned pro (4 of the top 6 forwards), so he definitely has the opportunity to take the lead.

TJ Hughes, Moldenhauer and Schilfsky are the main returnee on the forward side.

In the notable newcomers other than Hage, there's Humphreys, Werner and Whitelaw but I don't think any of them will block Hage.

Downside is all 6 can play C I believe. Best case scenario would be playing C between TJ Hughes and whoever does better of Moldenhauer/Schilfsky/Humphreys/Werner/Whitelaw.

Cheering for Hage not easy to lose a parent at a young age specially one whos had a big impact on your life
This kid, is going to turn a tough situation, into a very strong motivation to help in his career that's for sure. He will have a ton of fans to cheer him on !!

His first NCAA game is tomorrow I believe? I'm excited to see how he does.
20-0 Michigan but hé will score only 19 of those only . And gets the shutout too.
Half of the Habs fans will wonder how he not score 20 , and start wondering if he will bust while the other half will say he is light years better then mcDavid and won’t trade him for mcDavid even if the oilers add 2 first round picks

Your sense for subtle hyperbole is on point. True poetry. When reading your post, one can't help but wonder "is this really what the author thinks? Or is there some exaggeration in there? Darn it! I do not know. This guy is the real deal!"

I learned this wisdom by being on hf for years ….
Though reading my post back I might have missed the portion that think the coach not playing him enough and that will ruin his development :)
