It's unlikely but I hope the plan for the year is to sell at the deadline regardless of playoff status. You could potentially have all of Puusty, Poulin, McGoat, Pono playing in the NHL by mid season. Sell off whatever you can from the roster
yeah, i would send down everyone that they can and then quickly start trying to move players all the way to the trade deadline to open up spots for the younger players

From Taylor…lol…well at least Hayes isn’t with Eller

They're divided into a clear NHL group and a depth group. The only change in the groups from yesterday is Vasily Ponomarev is down with the depth group now.

Here's how the NHL guys lined up:

Drew O'Connor - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust
Michael Bunting - Evgeni Malkin - Rickard Rakell
Anthony Beauvillier - Lars Eller - Jesse Puljujarvi (Cody Glass
rotating in)
Kevin Hayes - Blake Lizotte - Noel Acciari

Matt Grzelcyk - Kris Letang
Marcus Pettersson - Jack St. Ivany
Ryan Graves - Ryan Shea
John Ludvig - Sebastian Aho

Tristan Jarry
Alex Nedeljkovic
But sure, we totally had competition in camp for young guys to make the lineup. f*** off Mike.

I've heard from sources that the reason no younger players have played in the NHL here is because "we draft badly".

That's why Puustinen has literally not gotten a single look with NHL talent this camp.

lol I never figured from the start that they were going to do anything useful with training camp

So within that context these projected lines seem about what I expected.

Even I'm a little surprised they didn't "feature" Groats more, though. I figured a game or at least some scrimmages on Crosby's wing was a given.

This is on Dubas (if he actually has any power within this organization, which is debatable). This summer, everybody was singing his praises for adding draft picks while picking up middling players other teams did not want. The problem with that strategy was that he ALSO added middling players without any draft picks attached to them. AND, we did not get rid of any of the excess we already had. Carter retired, or else he would probably still be here. Are we even younger now, despite Carter being gone? Not even sure about that.

The players Dubas added were always going to be Sullivan's preference, so why give him that option? Getting younger means actually playing younger players ON THE ICE. It does not mean simply adding draft pick capital. For f%&k's sakes, our 25-year-old cannot even crack this lineup!

We traded away our top prospect because it was said the guy we got was more ready. Not on Sullivan's watch, apparently. All of that Dubas enthusiasm for getting younger from early summer is washed away now in a sea of mediocrity in site.

Honestly, we're screwed. I knew we would be. Everybody here knew this. We just wanted to believe that this time things might be slightly different with this coach. But who are we kidding. He hired his buddy to assist him. We brought in Massachusetts products. This is Mike Sullivan's team and will always be. I can tell you this much...I became a fan of this franchise in 1990 because it was Mario Lemieux's team. And Jagr joined him that year.

There is absolutely ZERO chance that I would have ever come on board the Mike Sullivan train if I was looking for a team today. I f*&king hate Boston! Every team they have, I cannot stand.

Except this one.

Dubas is once again a worse GM than Hextall.

The fact people think he’s going to be able to pull off a rebuild is hilarious.

I called this shit. He never had any intention of playing younger players. This has been the lineup since day one of training camp.

We all called this lol. It’s been our existence since 2019.

I am still reeling at the idea of this team waiving Puustinen to keep Ludvig up. I genuinely did not think this team was dumb enough to keep up 8 D, especially with how awful Ludvig was last year. Yeah, I know he had some bad luck, but the dude was a -12 in 33 games. Why are they looking at this guy and saying "we need to keep this guy up"? He's also decently young enough that playing everyday in WBS could even help him.

I really hope I'm wrong and they end up waiving Ludvig, but going 13 F and 8 D is the only way that Puustinen ends up on waivers and it really seems like this team could be dumb enough to do it.

Drew O'Connor in 2022-23 - 46 games, 5 goals and 11 assists, but sure he got another shot the next year.

Valtteri Puustinen has 5 goals and 15 assists in 52 games, has a far better Points per 60 than Drew did in 22-23, is somehow not worthy of a longer look like he should get.

To be that big of a f***ing idiot as a coach is hilarious and the fact that none of these media :eek::eek::eek::eek: even call him on it just makes it worse for me, because it shows none of these Pens writers have any sort of back bone, they love to wax poetic about analytics and charts and all that shit, but only when it's players they like.

And no, I am not hating on Drew, I am literally saying Puustinen deserves the same opportunities as Drew. Drew's P/60 jumped from 1.57 to 1.63 while getting a lot of top 6 time, Puustinen's P/60 was 2.03, that's top 6 level. That's producing like Zucker did in his last season with the Penguins, as in when Puustinen was played, he took advantage of the minutes he got and produced in them at a far better rate.

"At the AHL level..." - Eat a pile of shit, Sullivan.
Here's the thing though, there's more to evaluating a player and where you want them in the lineup than nickel and diming advanced stats. When you look at DOC in the latter half of the year, the kid was a flat-out forechecking monster whose speed on the forecheck was very, VERY noticeable. He really started using his larger frame, too. When you look at what a guy like Sid wants and needs on his line, it's not hard to see why Sullivan might give the spot to DOC vs Puustinen. While Puustinen CLEARLY has a very nice skill set, I do think there are aspects of his game that are more perimeter-based and passive.

To use a very extreme example to highlight differences and preferences, who would we rather add to the team: Matthew Tkachuk or Mitch Marner? You can say Marner to be edgy and combative, but at the end of the day, we all know that Tkachuck would be a far better addition to the roster due to the style that he plays. Sure, Marner may add a few more goals or assists here and there but at the end of the day, they are close enough in production where its nearly a wash. You give the nod to Tkachuk because the dude is a flat-out monster on the ice. Again, this is an extreme example, but if you dial that back from 1st-line guys to 3rd-line guys, I think it illustrates why DOC may have a leg up on Puustinen in the eyes of the coaching staff. You can stick DOC on the first line with Sid. I'm not convinced you can stick Puustinen there.

I thought the top 6 was pretty well set with the only question being Beau vs DOC. But if we want a competitive camp where the performance is rewarded, it's hard not to argue it's not happening with Puljujarvi on the 3rd line when just a couple days ago we thought he was 100% WBS bound.

Oh how I wish Pittsburgh had its own Larry Brooks. It would be Brooks vs Tortorella 2.0. Always funny seeing Sullivan start complaining over the lightest bit of criticism over the years. Dude would melt if he faced actual criticism from the fans/media
