The false narratives around JT Miller are hilarious. He’s literally like a Yandle, Brassard, Hayes, Stolly type of guy off the ice.

People thinking he’s a bad guy or loner or something like that just kills me lol. Everybody loves him. Everybody wants to hang out with him. I bet after Tyson Barrie, JT Miller gets invited to more weddings every summer than every other player in hockey.

Yes he’s hard on teammates at the rink but it’s only when they aren’t competing. He doesn’t ask anything of anyone that he isn’t willing to go put 120% in for himself.

The riffs he’s had have been with losers who don’t put in work. He’s playing in Vancouver where they have Elias Pettersson who has some of the most raw skill this league has seen in recent years and Miller shows up to work every day, works his ass off and then sees this loser across the gym with his hood up texting on his phone the whole time. EP has all the talent in the world and in Miller’s eyes he’s just letting it go to waste.

People on HF Avs are wrong on Miller plain and simple. I don’t like pulling out the whole “knowing people” card but dear god guys, there’s some takes on here that are simply incorrect. @dahrougem2 you in particular one of he coolest cats HF has ever seen. I respect the hell out of you and you’re one of my OG HF buds. But dude either you’re making something up entirely off things you’re seeing from the outside without context, or someone is feeding you absolute bull shit about JT Miller.

I can’t predict how JTM will age or anything like that but I can tell you he’s a well liked teammate and a really talented hockey players who’s compete is up there with the best of him. If he’s available, get him.

My problem with Miller is exactly what you said, from the outside. I won't claim to have any inside info of who he is as a person away from the rink, but from the outside he doesn't seem to be the guy you're describing.

Somebody with the supposed rep he has shouldn't be making lazy play after lazy play on a nightly basis then getting pissed off at Elias Pettersson, who in all likelihood has a legitimate lower body injury for over a year now based on the difference in his skating statistics, for not putting in enough effort.

You likely know more of the personal side, and I won't question that. However, what we get to see on the ice and what we've heard from a player like Brad Richardson, it just doesn't paint Miller in the best light to me.

About the only verified time I think I heard MacKinnon go off on a teammate was at practice when he basically told Burakovsky “If you’re not gonna hit the net I’m not giving you the puck!” IIRC Burakovsky did indeed hit the net multiple times the following game.

IMO MacKinnon being this big angry dude is exaggerated a tad. Not entirely made up, but exaggerated.

Methinks you’re doing the exact same narrative creation you’re accusing everyone else of doing.

All I know for sure is that New York and Tampa Bay both sent him packing despite obvious talent, and he’s already butted heads with two star players in Vancouver.

Not every great NHL player is a gym rat and treats the game like it’s oxygen. Pettersson has more than proven he’s a franchise talent, whatever is going on with him, Miller needs to realize he’s not making anything better. Yeah, it’s great to have a guy like MacKinnon, but you also need guys like Rantanen who aren’t necessarily the most driven men on the ice.

Rantanen is very driven off the ice unlike petterson.

That’s fair, but I don’t think he makes nearly as many lazy plays on the ice as you’re saying. I think his intelligence and defensive game as a whole is certainly lacking, but I don’t see the laziness you mention although I’m not saying you’re wrong.

You would think that lol.

And you’re right, not everyone has to be a gym rat. Miller needs to recognize that too. But this is very much an age thing. Pettersson (along with Hughes and a few others) at their age are fine with just growing on each year and hoping to eventually get to where they want to be while getting to live the good life at the same time and enjoy all the other benefits of being an NHL player. There’s nothing wrong with that either. It’s very common for guys until they start to bear their mid to late 20’s. But Miller just wants to win.

He’s too harsh on guys 100%. But he’s playing for a franchise that doesn’t have mature leadership or like minded players. There isn’t a single player on that team close in caliber to Miller who shares similar drive. This makes him feel he has to be that guy and it’s not working in Vancouver.

That Vancouver core will mature into more of a win first mentality eventually, but they kind of only have one good hockey player with that mindset right now.

As for him getting traded twice, the first was when a team went all in trying to win a cup and acquired him and mcdonagh. The 2nd was because of the cap. Suggesting otherwise is yet another narrative creation.

It's something that I think happens a lot when I watch him. For example, the other night in overtime when he didn't bother taking a stride to cover his own guy from their blue line all the way to the Canucks net, and it ends in a Canucks loss. This is the start of OT as well. Whether that's lack of intelligence or laziness, who truly knows but I find that happens way too often for a guy with the reputation Miller has cultivated.

I don't question his desire, but I do question why he seemingly takes issue with a guy like Pettersson for work ethic issues when he either has the same, or just isn't a very smart player which ends with him looking like he isn't giving effort.

I get that Miller is a game-breaker, but I don't think you mess with happy.

A penalty-killing LHD and an impact forward (2nd line/middle-6ish) will have me believing this core can win another one.

I don't know about an impact forward, I'd like to see a 3rd line RW added who is a right hand shot. Unfortunately most guys who seem to be available are left shot forwards.

Luke Kunin should be out there, he's having a shockingly good season. But he's another meatball like Wood.

Not a righty, but a player who can play both LW/RW is Reilly Smith. Decent two-way guy, decent on the rush, still plays a lot on the PK. I feel a glue guy like that raises Colorado's floor without shaking up the goodness that's already going on.

Or make it a one stop shop and and get provorov @ 50% to play with Malinski
I don’t get your obsession with Olivier. He doesn’t strike me as anything more special than your average banger on the wing.

Edit: Jesus I didn’t even notice your ridiculous proposal for Provorov. What the f*** you want that idiot for?

Pettersson’s attitude has always been like that. They must have known it before giving him that contract
