Yeah I wouldn't care too much about adding Pettersson if these rumors are all true... Dont think he'd fit well in our locker room because its pretty clear we have quite a few guys in our dressing room that are very similar to Miller. Maybe not quite as aggressively "on you" as Miller is, but there's only one thing a guy like Mack cares about and if you aren't giving 100% to contribute to that on our team, probably not gonna be a great fit.

I'd even suggest Makar, Landy, and Mikko are the same way. Again, not in your face or constantly chewing you out like maybe MIller is, but they likely dont have any time for guys who dont give 100% effort all the time.

With all that being said, on the flip side I would absolutely love to get Miller here. If the Canucks end up going in that direction instead, I'd do everything we could to get Miller here. And his contract would be way more affordable for us.

Purely for imaginative sake:

- Mittelstadt + Wood + Ritchie + 2026 1st for JT Miller
- Mikko at 8x$12.5M
- Drouin at 2x$2.5M
- Parsnip at 1x$2M
- Malinski at 2x$1.5M
- Kivi at 2x$1.25M

Drouin(2.5) - Mack(12.6) - Nuke(6.125)
Lehky(4.5) - Miller(8.0) - Rantanen(12.5)
Colton(4.0) - Parsnip(2.0) - LOC(2.5)
Ivan(0.9) - Kelly(0.8) - Kivi(1.25)

Toews(7.25) - Makar(9.0)
Girard(5.0) - Manson(4.5)
???? - Malinski(1.5)

Blackwood(5.25)
Wedgewood(1.5)

If the cap were to hit $95M next year, that roster likely works. That group would be $91.675M So they'd have $3.325M for a #6D, and a couple of extra bodies. This of course also assumes Landy is LTIRetired which personally I still think he's going to return this year.

Yea, I’ve convinced myself Miller would work here. I do think you can only have so many hyper competitive guys for a short period of time, I think they’d start getting on each others nerves.

Yeah I knew some folks would jump on that... But I think its a completely different situation with Mikko. For starters I dont think its so much effort as an issue with him as it is just mental lapses on the ice that make it look lazy.

But also and most importantly, the dude turns it up to an 11 in big games and the moment the playoffs start he's also a different beast. That's what matters around here with these guys at this point. They'll do what it takes to have good regular seasons and put the team in a position for a deep run in the playoffs sure, but as soon as Game 1 Round 1 starts our superstars are completely different animals. Its a product of having already won the cup IMO, they just dont care as much about the regular season anymore, its one thing and one thing only that they care about.

I had to give you crap for that one.

I think it is an effort issue, but I actually don't mind it really. He doesn't have the same conditioning that Mack has but is asked to play the same minutes. He just knows he can't go balls to the wall every shift like Mack does.

Ya'll are nuts. I would take Pettersson in a heartbeat over Miller. I hope the Canucks do the insanely stupid thing of choosing Miller over Petey.

J.T Miller has this weird "warrior" rep for some reason. He's not good defensively. He's not supposed to be "the man" in Vancouver. He's been shipped away from two organizations already with Vancouver potentially being a third. You really think he'd work well here? What's more likely IMO is he clashes with guys like Nate and Mikko because he would genuinely believe that he's "the man" here, too.

We've seen Pettersson battle hard and play well majority of his career. He doesn't all of a sudden suck. I think he's praying Vancouver trades him literally anywhere.

Also hilarious that doofuses such as O'Brien prefer Miller. Well, not surprising anyways.

I'm good without Miller. Let him be someone else's problem. It doesn't seem like he's just "ultra competitive", it seems like he's a *****. Guy literally just took a break from his team for a month during the season.

No that's perfectly sane.

EP has been playing like shit even since he's been making 11.5M AAV and is a crybaby according to his own GM. We have no cap space for that.

As for Miller, there's a chance that our fractioned locker room with no captain wouldn't react well. CMac went out of his way to talk about how our new goalies are good for the room and that's the positive attitude that we needed. I have hard time to imagine that he'd turn around and bring in Miller.

I don’t want either.

I think Miller has a bad attitude and his shtick would get old quick inside a room that has already won. I don’t want him.

I think EP is a p***y. Doesn’t want to work hard and doesn’t understand how to sacrifice himself for team glory. I don’t want him either.

Yeah no thanks to either of those Canucks bums.

The guy we should have acquired from them was Horvat when it became clear that JT2C wasn't going to cut it after the cup win.

All it cost was a conditional 1st, Beauvellier (lol) and Raty. A similar price could easily have been matched with JTC comparable to Beauv as the centrepiece

Is there any planet where we can get Horvat or Barzal off the Isle? I think either would be fantastic as a 2C here and I would happily give up Mitts+Ritchie++

Not sure, but I do wonder if the Isles and Barzal end up mutually agreeing to find a trade for him.

I get the sense he and Roy aren't meshing the best.

Quite frankly the Isles in general look like shit and really should be looking more towards the future. And they do have a few really interesting pieces if they ever go that route.

I honestly don’t know if Barzal has the attitude to really succeed in the Avs system, but with his speed and playmaking abilities, there’s a chance he sky rockets in production with the Avs

I'd love Barzal, but we cannot have him with his 9,15M cap hit.

My belief is that he could be 90+ pts center here.

Any hypothetical Rantanen trade would need to give us an equal value immediately in the playoffs this season, otherwise they just keep him as their own rental for the best chance at the cup. The return would likely have to be 2 players who also have good contracts (or retention) to fit in. The limit would be something like Rants cap hit and whatever extra we might have banked by the trade deadline. Guys like Elias Pettersson or Sebastian Aho alone aren't enough.
