So…any Black Friday deals on goalies?

80% off a 39 year old, washed up, former Ontario Provincial Junior A goaltender from Canada.

He will accept 20% of Georgiev's salary + a cooler of ice cold beer(Canadian, not American piss) after each game.

Team needs to be okay with an average of 5-7 PIM per game + smoke breaks between periods.

If we allow for smoke breaks between periods and during commercial breaks can we decrease the acceptable PIMs to 2-5/game?

The problem is we don't know how stupid how agent is trying to be. Is he saying we are going to get 14M per on the open market and we didn't care about an extra year we want 14M per from you or we walk.

Is the agent factoring in the extra year like normal people would, which would put it in 12.25 range. Or is he being an ass and saying for the extra year we'll bring it down to 13.5.

It's tough to say but clearly there is a gap somewhere or it would be done by now. My take is if he's looking for more than 12.25 he needs to be traded tomorrow. That's pretty fair market value. If someone wants to pay him 14M let it be some other team. Just make sure you get something, can't let him walk for free.
Or use him as our own rental and use the 12 plus mil on free agents and other players

I don’t doubt Rants can get 14M on the open market but he is not worth it. Draisaitl is better than him and a center and he’s barely worth that coin. Plus he gets a markup by staying in Edmonton.

7 x 14 =98.
Drop that down to 96 (his jersey number) for a team discount and divide it by 8 = 12.0

Or they do 98/8 = 12.25 that’s as high as I see the Avs going. He’ll accept.

The equivalent of Draisaitl contract on the open market would've been 16 million. 14M for Rantanen on the open market = 12.25 with the Avs.

When we are talking about these long term deals, always look at the total value first. That's what the agents are going for, not the AAV. 8 years vs 7 years.

Something fishy (as usual with that player)

- JT Miller, the Canucks' best forward, is taking a "leave of absence" and won't say why publicly.
- Elias Pettersson immediately starts producing again
- Another team "inquires" about Miller and Staple thinks it's big enough to make a story about it
- ???

I imagine Zibanejad and one of Trouba or Kreider would go the other way.

Letting Mikko walk would be catastrophic asset management. Just look at what happens when a star player is allowed to dick a team around just to leave for greener pastures. The Avs cannot allow the same thing to happen.
I don't believe CMac has the balls to trade Mikko and will run out the, "we treated him as our own rental" line at the deadline.

Going to save you a click: Colorado’s message, both publicly and internally, has been that they remain confident in their goaltenders and that Alexandar Georgiev and Justus Annunen can hold the fort down.

How did you get that from that article?

That’s what I’m wondering.

Even when I post quotes from insiders saying the Avs are not looking for a goalie, people reply saying “ah, just don’t want to pay too much.”

I firmly believe the org just wants Georgiev to be respectable and that’s it. Maybe a backup at the deadline but nothing in the near future.

I'm pretty sure they are posturing and just don't want Geogiev's value in a trade to be negative like Ryjo's was.

For me, the lack of an extension for Georgiev in the off-season speaks volumes about how they truly feel about him and if that doesn't say enough, the fact they drafted 3 goalies in June kinda tells you where they are at as well.

If I was a betting man, I believe the course of action they will take will be to move George out for a 'decent' option and do what's necessary to make sure Nabokov comes over after his KHL season ends and go with that tandem.

The Avs can downplay how bad George has been at various times during this calendar year and even point to the times when he's been on his game if they want but it doesn't change the fact that 'overall' it's not nearly good enough and it hasn't been all year. The minor leagues are littered with goalies who just can't be consistently good and just keep running super hot or super cold.

What value? He’s one of the worst starting goalies in the league, and has shown he’ll throw a hissy fit if he’s a back-up.

How did you get that from that article?
Because it’s a fluff piece.

The Avs are notorious for not leaking their intentions to the media, especially the ‘sources’. They’re taken the context of what Bednar says in post-game press talks.

There’s also pretty clear signs the Avs put some emphasis on advanced stats. I find it hard to believe that the front office see these stats, along with the eye test and believe Georgiev and Annunen are the answer.

I do think that they still have faith in George, but any article that states they’re fine with Annunen is laughable.

I'd think there might be too much up in the air right now to really do anything with the goalie, especially if you are looking for a permanent fix. You need to know when Landy is coming back (regular season? playoffs? next season?) then you need to see where the health of the club really is with regards to guys like Drouin, Toews, and everyone else, also...how is Nuke doing? Any troubling sigs?. All those things drastically effect our cap situation and will drive our needs at the deadline.

Goaltending voo-doo...
At least Alexandar is starting to play better. Like Nuke, can celebrate every little victory and continue to wish to see him doing well and
even improve. It's just in this case, I would feel a hell of a lot better with someone who didn't go through such lengthy erratic spells. The bad spells are long enough to kill a series outright and while we've seen Georgiev not be the reason we've lost a series, he's also never been a reason the team has won a series. When I look at his carerr, I'd say the arch is in the downward tajectory and we really should be swapping him out before the playoffs, but I just don't think the organization sees anything like I do. Which in many instances is probably a good thing.
