If I was Crosby, I'd ask to be traded.

It would be one thing if he was totally washed and was just collecting a pay check, but the reality is that Sid can still play, and he can still contribute to a team that's trying to win the cup.

I get wanting to be with the same franchise your whole career, but the competitive side of him has to be yearning for a last run.

True. It's sad to watch things go down like this.

Crosby already has three cups and won everything else there is. Totally understandable and somewhat expected if he intends to stay with the Pens no matter how much they suck.

Thats another 3 years (this one included)..... I mean, if he is ok to collect his paycheck, play his 82 games and has fun doing so, who am i to judge him....

I highly doubt that a guy like Sid really gets into such a mode... That guy is still a beast and one of the best out there... And i am 100 % sure he still wants to win and fight for a cup.

Why not go out with a bang and play the last 2 seasons with Mac and Makar? One man can dream, but those 2 up front, and Makar behind...... That gives me wet dreams.....

Crosby wants to retire a Pen and do the Lemieux thing where he mentors the next guy to take the torch. They don’t even have that guy drafted yet. Fun to dream tho

Yeah that's the thing.

Sid is arguably one of the most competitive players of our generation. I have a really hard time imagining he'd be content to ride into the sunset and just collect his paycheck. If the Pens end up doing a mass sell off, I'd bet Dubas will approach Sid and explain the situation and then ask him if he'd like to be moved to continue having the chance to play for a cup.

I really doubt Sid would say not to that.

TSN 1050 Radio this morning were discussing the Crosby topic with Mike Johnson.

The hosts(including Carlo Colaiacovo) were suggesting a few teams and said winning with the Leafs would be Crosby’s greatest achievement lol

Johnson said if the Habs were further along in their rebuild, he could see them being an option, but the only realistic one he sees is Colorado.

He said if he was asked a year ago the chances of Crosby moving to another team, he would’ve considered it unlikely. However, now he would call it likely given how the Pens have played out and people he has spoken to close to Sid. He wants to go out with another Gold for Canada and another Stanley Cup. Crosby is an ultra competitive guy.

Johnson said every contender in the league would line up to try and acquire him, but he believes Crosby would only consider a much improved Habs team or more likely just the Avalanche. Also said Sakic and his management would find any way to make it work cap wise.

He also said if Crosby requested a trade to a specific team that Dubas wouldn’t ask for the world and would be realistic to make it happen for Sid. They wouldn’t deny him of the only thing he’d ever ask of the organization.

Isn't this just the same sort of wishful thinking we were doing before we traded for Mittlestadt and before Crosby signed a contract extension with the Penguins?

It’s the extremely rare situation where Colorado would be the ideal and preferred destination for unarguably the greatest player of this generation.

Dreaming is acceptable in this scenario.

Outsiders like this only see the Mack and Crosby connection, they don't know that we have a 2C and our cap situation. Crosby at one point was a good fit but he isn't anymore.

I would imagine the entire attraction of coming to Colorado would be to play alongside Nathan MacKinnon, not to be a second line center.

Yes, other than Pens are now tearing down the team officially. We don't need Crosby anymore, but if he wants to come here, I'm pretty sure that the Avs will do everything they can to make space.

Do these guys even look at context? How in hell do the Avs come up with $8.7M cap space? Let's assume they toss in the entirety of our pipeline to get Pittsburgh to retain 50%. Where do the Avs get that $4.35M? Colton has an NTC this year and an M-NTC for the remainder of his contract.

CMac would have to destroy either the 3rd line (both LOC and Wood, and both have M-NTC) or the 2nd pair (either guy, but both have M-NTC) to find the $4.35M.

And don't even start me on trying to figure out next season, if Landy were to return, Mikko gets his $3M raise and Crosby was here.

Everything you just said , aside from the Leafs joke ;) , i heard about it for months on the Québec Medias. Each Time that Crosby come up in a convo the Answer is the Habs and then the journalist(s) make a correction saying that the only realistic place is Colorado . It's been like this for 2-3 years now .

Yeah that would be what would happen. Mack would switch to wing so they could play on the same line.

I also can't see it happening unless Rantanen goes the other way which I'm not sure makes a ton of sense for the Penguins and their rebuild but it's not like he's in his mid-thirties or anything. Crazier things have happened but this likely will not.

Move MacKinnon to Crosby's wing then, not a big deal. Not like Landeskog didn't take a lot of the Centre responsibilities when he was on MacKinnon's wing already.

Nichushkin with some retention on Crosby from Pittsburgh.

I don’t trust Nuke to not get pinched again anyways.
