Are you taking into account Poolman's LTIR space?Technically, the Avs are not above the cap because Nuke is treated like he was shot to Mars. According to CapWages, the Avs are $7.278M under the cap, but that actually includes 24 players, not 23, largely because there are 3 goalies active on the roster. So really $8.278M
In theory, Landy takes $7M of that space, should he return, leaving $1.278M. Nuke is going to require approximately $5M when he returns. So even cutting 4 players and using a roster of 20 - thus saving about $3.4M - the Avs are still a little bit short. So every dollar they can save by these paper transactions will ( I presume CMac has calculated this) slowly accrue enough room for Nuke.
TL;DR - Unless the Avs conserve cap space, they will be unable to fit both Nuke and Landy on the roster.
BTW, seems like CapWages isn't being properly updated right now.
Edit to add* I put everything in a spreadsheet. Assuming a 23 man roster with Nuke @ 5, Landy @ 7, and Kaapo removed, the cap hit would be almost exactly 90M. Taking into account Poolman's 2 million in LTIR pool, everything fits just fine. The recent injuries do cloud it up a little though, which is why the team has been agressive with the paper transactions.
