Bednar looks like a guy who's coming back from a 2 week fishing trip in the middle of the forrest and hasnt showered yet.

If Kadri signed here it would've been for less than Calgary. Probably ~6milx8 if I had to guess. It all hinged on EJ going to Anaheim really.

But in the end prioritizing your 4/5D over your 2C was a major mistake that cost the team Byram in the long run.
Maybe if Buffalo keeps on sucking then Bo might request a trade back to Colorado to play with Makar as he has a much better chance if winning the cup here. Just like ROR gave up and did not want to play for Pegulas and then requested a trade. Too bad ROR did not want to come back to Colorado.

Guess Raanta isn't retired
Just retired from the NHL. He said in a Finnish interview a few weeks ago that he's not interested in being a third-string goalie which would mean that he's in the AHL as a 35 year old. Switzerland in specific was something his wife was interested in.

You can run it through Google Translate and laugh at the usual poor translation from Finnish, but I guess the point gets across.

Played in the Creede pond hockey tourney last winter and supposedly Bedsy had just bought a ranch outside town. So maybe he was tending to his flock in the San Juans all summer?

Why can't the Avs hire good international scouts to help their team find the next Kiril the thrill Kaprizov or Matvei Michkov. At least we were not scared like the Canadians by passing up on a superstar and drafting a big dman instead.

Curious what the AAV is but I am extremely happy with that. He's such a good bottom 6 guy and somehow was still getting better every year leading into this year.

I've said before they should just give him the Miles Wood contract... Well, they matched his years, curious what the $ amount will be.

Be interesting to see what the Avs do now next summer. We all assumed LOC would be gone and Landy/Lehky/Nuke would slide down to the 3rd line to play with Wood and Colton.

Now what? Which top 6 winger is on the way out next summer?

- Drouin, UFA, but terrific chemistry with Mack and likely won't cost a boat load to re-sign
- Mikko, UFA, but top ~10 player in the league, do you really let him walk or trade or what?
- Landy, if healthy, isn't going anywhere
- Lehky, clutch and one of the top two-way wingers on a great contract
- Nuke, should probably go, but the Avs record is so much better with him in the line-up, would a team want to trade for him

Something's gotta give, cause you can't have five top 6 wingers and salaries, plus a 4m 3C in Colton. Even without Colton, that's pushing it.

Sammy G or Manson will probably be on the chopping block next year

I just don't see the cut coming on D. Not unless the Avs got someone younger or cheaper ready to step into the top 4.
I'm really chaffed that we didn't target a guy like Emberson or Kovacevic this season over someone like Brannstrom, especially after the Kylington signing. Not that any are top 4 D but they are big, physical, right shot dmen with puck skills and were very cheap to acquire. We need that desperately in our pipeline to make Manson expendable.

I think killing 2 birds with one stone would be to trade Nuke for a young top 4 RHD when he's proven to be able to play again. I've suggested to the NYR for someone like Schneider as the base. The distraction is gone, you gain cap space, NYR makes a splash, and it frees you up to then flip Manson for more futures/cap space to weaponize.

We have Behrens and Gulyayev. It will allow us to keep G, retain Drouin and Lehky in the top 6, and have our top 3C's set. That cap space can be used on a top 6 W (depending on Landy's health) or more likely to solidify the goaltending and/or extensions to Cale & Mikko.

Drouin - Mackinnon - Rantanen
Landeskog - Mitts - Lehkonen
Colton - Ritchie - LOC
Wood - X - Kovalenko
X

Toews - Makar
Girard - Schneider
Behrens - X
Gulyayev

Annunen
X

Something like that in a couple of years should be doable under the cap, especially if you swap Kovy with Colton and save some more $, and the team is still ultra competitive

Someone missed the Demidov memo.
