It's only a matter of time until Byram ends up in Vancouver, and we face him multiple times a year, and in the playoffs. If he doesn't get traded, he'll probably sign there as a UFA.

Context is there are still good games without shots. Games like last night, he wasn’t terrible despite a terrible looking standard stat line. People key in on the shots only and it misses other things he brings. Shot assists, passes to the slot, defensive play, etc.

Again of the top guys last night, he had the best xGF% last night. Better than Makar, MacK, Rants, etc. He was good against Utah and spectacular vs Detroit. It has been enough or consistent, but people make it sounds like last night was terrible and the last 10 games were all bad (they’ve been mostly bad)… which is just not the case.

Uh, that isn't what happened. The shot numbers were brought up as a piece of the pie. You brought up attempts/chances because of some supposed missing context.

Now you're pivoting and saying the missing context you were really talking about is a bunch of other mumbo jumbo. Sure thing. Happy that's cleared up.

Oh cmon. Our players don't simply suck and would in unemployed in most of the other teams in the league. That's just unrealistic expectations regarding the roster IMO. Kiviranta is just fine when he is a 4th line winger for example.

What we are really missing is a real 3C. That would put a lot names to right places in the roster. Kelly/Ivan are passableish 4C's/4W's but nothing more. LOC and especially Wood should be 4th liners, but that's more of an expectation to have after the TDL. If they're both playing 3rd line we're not going anywhere in the playoffs.

I don't see anyone on NYR or Buffalo worth prying to help our club.

My ultimate dream wishlist is to acquire Gourde and Tanev from Seattle, then a 4/5 LHD to play with Malinski and boot CDH to the moon.

Cap wise, so long as all three of those players came 50% retained and the Avs were sending Kylington away in one of the deals they'd be cap compliant and could bring Miles Wood back, too. That is according to PuckPedia.

Just imagine

Drouin - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Lehkonen - Mittelstadt - Nichushkin
Colton - Gourde - Tanev
Wood - Kelly - O'Connor

F*** it, CMac. F*** them picks and f*** them prospects. Make it happen. I want another cup.

Byram’s playoff play in 22 makes me believe he has what it takes to be a core piece of a contending team’s back in but I still love our decision to trade him for Mittelstadt.

If Buffalo however uses Byram to somehow land them EP or Miller I will immediately regret that Byram/Mittelstadt swap lol.

Wait isn't that the guy we just signed? Already on waivers?
It does seem odd we signed him to a 1 way contract. Seemed like a perfect choice for a two-way. Unless there was some reason we couldn't? I'm guessing this whole thing was a big favor to the guy. Give him a big raise, and a chance to enter waivers and potentially get picked up by another club. There's also the possibility the Avs still play him too. Just like with Wags, I keep forgetting you can put players on waivers and if they're not claimed, they become exempt for a while. Then you can send them up and down for cap savings.

It is a two-way contract. That just means he makes a different salary when he's playing NHL games vs AHL games.

His age (26) is the issue. Players who sign their first contract at age 25+ are eligible for waivers right away.

Wait Wagner didn’t get claimed?! Phew. Was not hoping he wouldn’t. Who wouldn’t want a 4C with 1 point in 22 games. Our bottom 6 is mid as hell. So it confuses me when I think it was either Pierre or Elliotte said we want to move on a defenseman now. Yea it fits their motive of what they like but how can you look at that bottom 6 and be content? Especially when they said “reinforcements aren’t coming soon”.
