What if he doesn't have to be a premiere line driver though?

Probably won't happen, but imagine a Nuke-Brady-Necas line? Val for the defense. Brady for the moxy. Necas for the zone entries, play driving, and playmaking. Val and Brady can win battles in the corners and front of the net and all three can shoot the puck.

The Avs don't actually need good two way centers for their system. Nate, Kadri, and Compher aren't that great defensively. They rely on good defensive wingers like Landy, Val, and Lehky.

Brady's goal scoring could be just what the Avs need at 2C if he can play well there.

Another reason Brady could fit well is this Avs team tends to be a bit moody and gets down on itself when things aren't going well. Which contributes to losses, and prevents comebacks like they used to have.

Similar to how Kadri had a big impact on the room, and by extension their ability to win big games, a team with Brady Tkachuk is never going to lack confidence.

He will pick everyone up and will the fight out of them, either metaphorically with his play on the ice, or literally.

No I don't think so.

There's been off and on again rumors, and his NMC kicks in during the summer, but I was just spitballing from the lack of trade rumors during the break. I think he'd be a good fit, but I'm not sure the Sens would move him.

I just don't think we have the pieces to acquire Brady anyways. Especially with the Sens being in a playoff spot a futures package won't really entice them much I don't think.

Let’s think about what it would take.

MacKinnon or Makar straight up obviously gets it done.

What else?

Necas + Toews?

There’s nothing else we could put together that would interest Ottawa. No package of Mitts + Lehky/Nuke + Sammy G or anything would interest them. Definitely not prospects and picks.

He’s their captain, signed long term, and they are not going to start another rebuild.

This is really a moot discussion.

I agree, but mostly because he's more than just a player for that team, he's their captain, and a marketable presence to build around.

On paper, Val plays the same position, his production matches or betters Brady's alone, and he's better defensively.

So if it's just about building a team, and they aren't concerned about extra curricular activities, then a package of Val + Mitts + 1st could in theory entice them, should they be willing to move him. Or get Ritchie involved, who they may be high on.

But that's more of how the Sens might approach things in the past. Just constantly shuffling good players in and out, regardless of how big a presence they are. He's most likely staying put.
 
Didn’t one of the insiders say there would be players not returning to their same team during four nations? Unless there’s stuff lined up for Thursday after the game I guess there wasn’t much going on trade-wise.

Remember when people said be prepared for movement during the four nations and I think there’s been a single trade involving AHLers I’ve never heard of.

I don't recall anyone saying that. I recall many reporters saying that some players may have already played their last game for their team as they anticipate some trades to be announced on Friday

(Before I respond, I want to make clear that I don't think that Tippett is a better player than Nichushkin. However, just for shits and grins during a league break, here we go:)

From a ppg standpoint, no not at all. Nichushkin is the superior offensive player.

But if you look at season totals over the past 3 years, their respective production was almost exactly the same last year and the year before (47 vs. 49 points; 53 vs. 53 points), because Nichushkin hasn't played full seasons, while Tippett has. Attendance matters. I'd also mention that Tippett has played those two years on a dogshit team with no MacKinnon or Makar on the ice with him. And as stated earlier, their contracts are almost identical salary.

Moving along to the guy we do have on the roster, I expect Nichushkin (and Manson) will be back on Saturday. Will this be the first time the Avs have a full healthy roster all season? Wonder if they roll with the top line they ran with before the break, and see if a Drouin-Mittelstadt-Nichushkin line can make some noise.

Counterpoint: Mittelstadt has outscored Nichushkin two seasons ago, one season ago, and this season.

There was mixed reporting. Friedge reported that there would probably be movement I guess? Maybe Seravalli too? CJ on the other hand said there would probably not be that many trades announced, not to take away the spotlight from 4-nations.
