Dreger on TSN 1050 Radio:

“Look, I know everybody wants to see it, but Sid gets a say in this too, right? He just doesn’t want to leave Pittsburgh. He’s only interested in his legacy with the Penguins.”

That's really cute Sid, but everyone on earth wants to see you play next to Mac and actually win something meaningful again before you ride into the sunset. No one wants to watch legends die a slow death on shit teams.

So this Nation's Cup and the 2026 Olympics will be the last meaningful games of hockey we may ever see of Sid. What a waste to maybe have the last 6+ years of his career not make the playoffs. The guy could've challenged for #2 in all time playoff points.

There's also no way that these guys know what Sid really thinks or wants. Of course Sid will say the right things, that he wants to stay in Pitt, he can't just come out and say he's open to leaving right now. It would never surprise me if he was actually dealt and Mac is on secret mission right now laying the groundwork in Sids mind that Pitt sucks and Colorado has nice rivers and a decent hockey team to play on.

Mack has Cale hand drawing beautiful renderings of the Colorado River

Meh, the greatest of all time missed the playoffs entirely in 4 of his final 6 seasons with the Kings/Blues/Rangers. Mario missed the playoffs his final 4 seasons, too.

Sid's legacy has long been set. Two Olympic Golds, three Stanley Cups, two Conn Smythes, Golden Goal in 2010, two Art Ross, two Hart, three Lindsays, two Rockets.

To do it all with the same team is an unbelievable achievement. Who else in history can say they have this legacy with the same team? His legacy is better than Yzerman's, Sakic's, Lidstrom's, etc.

Sakics? Bite your tongue!

You're also thinking too logically here. We're thinking selfishly as Avs fans. Don't come in here with that kind of reasoning.

Also, just cause some other legends deciding to play it easy and play for crap teams before they left, doesn't mean they should. Raymond Bourque had the balls the size of Boston and left to win a cup, whether your first, or 4th cup, doesn't matter. Gotta think big.

Well, no, Ray only left Boston because he never won a Stanley Cup. If he had won with the Bruins say against the Oilers in 1990, he never leaves Boston.

I get it, but nobody thinks Wayne's legacy is tarnished for not staying in the same place for his entire career... In fact there is a case to be made that it's very seldom that you see it as a downside.

Honestly I can only think of 2 examples that hurt someone's legacy. Karl Malone (only because he didn't get a ring with the Lakers) and Kevin Durant - probably because he was just jumping team to team. But they are still all time greats, so I don't know
