I'm not remotely worried about what other teams do (Dallas can get Jones, I don't think it'd have the same impact as them getting Tanev last season), Avs need to take care of their own f***ing roster and the many deficiencies therein.
This. Also the Avs are likely playing Dallas in the playoffs this year and the next few years. Anytime the Avs can prevent Dallas from improving while also improving their own roster is a no brainer.I completely disagree with this. Jones is a long-term trade, he could be a great partner for Heiskanen raising their top pairing to on-par with ours or anchoring their 2nd pairing. They're already ridiculously deeper than the Avs when it comes to scoring. Better goalie in net. Dallas adding Jones just makes them that much more of a wall to try and get through.
If Jones came with the $2-3mil retention, I'd move Richtie for him if it moved the needle. At the very least it might force Dallas to trade Bischel.

Hope your lobotomy goes smoothly !![]()
So, the new trade rumor rating is now based on chubs?Sid to Avs E87 as Biz gets a half chub
I think the important distinction is that we need to simply get a better fit 2C even if the player isnāt necessarily better.People here seem to worry waaaaaaaay too much about bottom pairing dmen. They are a dime a dozen and are super easy to find.
No...the elephant in the room is how they'll find a new 2C.
We might have to keep Mitts because there's no one else available and if that's the case it's first round exit territory. We can't have just one line that can provide offense and Mitts kills the 2nd line.

Case in point Rantanen and Necas. I think everyone agrees that Rantanen is the more valuable player, but in our actual system, the difference is not there (albeit a small sample). Same thing with Burskovsky and Lehkonen.
Itās more important to get a stylistic fit than it is to get a player with more perceived value around the league.
That's fine, I'm just not nearly as high on Jones as others are on this board.I completely disagree with this. You're crazyCall me crazy, but at this current point in time Necas is the better player. The only thing Mikko is currently better at is shooting the puck, and it isn't a wide margin.

Well they're obviously not quite a dime-a-dozen because the Avs somehow went looking and came up with Wish quality merchandise.People here seem to worry waaaaaaaay too much about bottom pairing dmen. They are a dime a dozen and are super easy to find.

I wonāt underestimate what Rants is capable of but the Necas acquisition makes the Avs more balanced with better depth and versatility in their top two lines. Iāll always appreciate what Rants accomplished with as a member of the Avs but Necas is, IMO, already just as good as Rants (if not more valuable to the team and organization in terms of the cap). Knowing what I know now, Iād do that trade again 10 out of 10 times with no hesitation.Call me crazy, but at this current point in time Necas is the better player. I think you can very well make the argument that Necas fits the system better, also our cap structure and that he will age better than Rantanen. But no, in a vacuum, he's not the better player.I wonāt underestimate what Rants is capable of but the Necas acquisition makes the Avs more balanced with better depth and versatility in their top two lines. This is why itās absolutely vital for JB and CMac to be on the same page. Especially in JBās system. I never wouldāve imagined him to be such a butthead about trying different line combinations but itās a must. You need to know what youāve got ASAP.I think the important distinction is that we need to simply get a better fit 2C even if the player isnāt necessarily better.

I think fit wise the teams lost a bit of its identity trying to find more "Lehkys". Its seemed like they've really moved away from the speed and automatic zone entries that we had from 18/19-21/22 to trying to add lots of two way ability, getting "low event" guys and getting "harder to play against". This team needs Lehky's and LOC's, but losing Bura and what he brought to this team has been felt pretty immensely since the cup win imo.I think the important distinction is that we need to simply get a better fit 2C even if the player isnāt necessarily better.

Depends on how you define better player. Individual accomplishments and accolades maybe. More valuable to the team and organization under the circumstances? Iāll go with Necas. Maybe Iām blinded by the shiny new toy syndrome but I donāt think so. When I watched Rants and see how motivated he was in his play on ice, there is no comparison to Necas. And you canāt deny Necas moves his feet in games. Rants looks mired in quicksand in comparison.I think you can very well make the argument that Necas fits the system better, also our cap structure and that he will age better than Rantanen. Avs shooting luck has been shit this year too.Lol, he's shooting more, and from everywhere. I can certainly see a drop in his percentage. That is literally how the Canes play as a team.
This is a demonstration of his inflexibility as a coach. This is why itās absolutely vital for JB and CMac to be on the same page. Especially in JBās system. We don't have any assets to sell, so that's why Jones was kinda attactive option. A bit of market opportunity in a way.Even if Dallas gets Jones, it will depend on what CMac does and if we can compete with them in the playoffs. I mean the world doesnāt end with Seth Jones. There are other players CMac can get which will make the Avs better
How much of that is really dependant on the rosters, and how much of the fact that DeBoer has simply outcoached Bednar every single f***ing time they've played against eachother?Even if Dallas gets Jones, it will depend on what CMac does and if we can compete with them in the playoffs.
