Rumor: 2024-2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Talk | Part Deux

But I thought their were rules:
1. Jones heavily retained to the Avs.
2. AVs are getting Zegras from the Ducks.
3. CBJ wants Mitts, but has nothing of value but Minny's 1st really...oh and glorious retention slots and boatloads of cap-space available and quite frankly needing to be filled to get to the floor next season.
4. We all want Colton and Wood gone, which I actually feel like we need to pay someone for as they would be doing us a real solid.

Okay...now that I think about it. I should probably remove Malinski from the deal. Happy?

I hope you realize this whole thing is a lark.

Just say no to Zegras

Just say no to Zegras
I was shocked as hell to see all the talk about him this morning when I started catching up on this thread. Had no idea the Avs were looking at him. I'd heard about it last year maybe during the summer I think some folks were discussing it, but nothing in months at least.

I mean...I would have been willing to go down the Zegras route at any point before now. But after having struck out with Newhook, RyJo, and now Mitts, I simply don't think we are in the position to "take a chance" on a player rebounding, or finding their way here. What we need is a player who will unarguably work...an established center with talent. Problem is I have no idea which tree to shake to get one of those suckers to fall from. If I had my picks, it would be Crosby or Larkin but neither are going anywhere ever.

Whatever CMac does though, I'm sure will surprise me...unless he trades Mitts to the Caps for Eller with retention. Then I might throwup a little in my mouth.

The general gist I’m getting is that we are going to trade all of our valuable assets to get lazier, older and slower while not actually fixing any of the roster issues. I’m ready
Trading Mikko was just the first step in the rebuild. You've got to eventually scorch the earth in order to plant a new successful garden in the NHL.

He's adjusted to the role. 4C is not a necessary upgrade, Kelly is fine.
Getting a 4C isn't really essential. It's just about making minor improvements to improve the depth. Like the Sturm acquisition in 2022.

If there's a cheap 4C available then why not pick them up and move Kelly to the wing?

I'm okay with PK being 4C, if that's the way it shakes out, but if someone better is available, we might move him to wing.
I've often thought PK'd probably look better as a winger, too.

I actually thought Parssinen was brought in to take PK's role at center and allow him to shift to winger. But then Juuso got put on the 2nd line as a winger for a game and the next thing I knew he was in the doghouse playing 4th line LW and getting 6:43 vs Edmonton.

If Mitts wasn't being such an incredibly ineffective player our C depth should actually be solid MacKinnon > 2C > Drury > Kelly/Parrsinen is good NHL depth. Just need to find a way to turn Mitts into a 2C, either here or via trade.

Whaddyagonna do when our coach is a stubborn ass

If the Avs intended for Kelly to be a winger, he'd play wing. Colton and Drury would play center.

The Avs view Kelly as a center.
Yeah, Bednar loves that line. There would be no reason to spend assets to improve it or try to change the personnel if Bednar isn’t going to utilize it.

Send Mitts out for assets.
Get a 2C replacement.
Add a dman.

These are the 3 main priorities. Anything on top of this is pure gravy IMO.

Obviously we have absolutely no idea what’s happening with Landeskog. But they do. So they know whether they’re expecting him to play or not.

Or get a 3C like Evans and push Drury down to 4th line, you could even try him out at 2C and see if it sticks. I think somewhere I read him and Mon were far apart and a 2nd and prospect should get it done.

If anything, the Avalanche need a 3C.

I've liked Drury since he came over, but facts are facts: he's on pace for 19 points. That is not 3C production.
Yeah everyone was so slam dunk on him being a 3C… and he’s awesome. But a 3C may be out of his talent level. Just feel like he’s a dude that’s really good for a 4th line but matching up with 3C’s he’s probably average at best.
