Can we talk about Rantanen's stats with the Canes (ie: away from Mack) ?

Before tonight he had 1G 1A in his last 5 games...and so far no point tonight either. If he keeps this up there's no chance in Hell the Canes will offer him the contract he's hoping for.

I don’t think there’s a disconnect between CMac and Bednar.

In fact, I think they’ve always been on the same page, and have very similar stylistic tendencies. They’re both very analytics driven, and prefer the smaller, speedy, less flashy, two way puck hounds.

Problem is, you can’t build an entire team of that, it will have weaknesses. Joe IMO fills in those voids with a more old school mindset. I think he’s probably the one that questions whether they have enough jam in certain areas, or are hard enough to play against. I think they approach team decisions the same way they have since Roy left.

The only real misstep in recent years has been Mitts IMO. Everything else has been manageable.

We found out though what it would be like if HFAvs was a GM. They’d make a panic trade for Mitts they regret. Nearly everyone loved this move, so it’s interesting that many also criticize CMac for it now.

Colton though is fine. Inconsistent but a fine middle sixer. Injuries and no stability in linemates have affected him. Wood’s back injury really f***ed things up for him. Aside from that I think he also could have been fine. Both could be moved in the off season. This year, they’re just added depth, that they don’t need to trade for on wing. No big deal.

I think we’re overreacting a bit again IMO. Which is understandable because of the skid they’re on. But they’ve addressed goaltending, and they have a lot of other pieces in place. Necas and Drury look like very good fits.

They just need to make a 2C trade and 1-2 D men trades. They’ve got the assets to do both if they want.

If they swap Mitts for a slight upgrade at 2C, bring in some vet D men (especially if one is a #3-4 RD that bumps Manson down to improve the third pair), get Landy and Val back, and this team can compete again, despite the criticisms of Bednar and CMac.

Kadri, Jones, and Dumoulin. Those would be my targets, unless there’s an off the radar 2C trade that’s younger and cheaper. If Crouse comes cheap, target him as well if you can, but it’s not necessary.

He's also shooting 5% and has an OISH% of 6%. Thats unsustainably low.

If you want to wallow in it hit up twitter (X). It's getting hot 🔥.

Question for everyone. Would you empty the clip for Kadri (1M retained) and Anderssen?

Mitts + Richie + Russian D prospect I can't spell + 2026 1st + 2027 1st + whatever other prospect they want (Hopefully not Nabokov).

Oh, and yes I'd be trying to get Wood in there, but wouldn't require it.

I mean... I wouldn't say Schenn adds anything that MItts doesn't right now.
Gumption ?

I would do that, though I prefer Jones to Anderssen.

I think they need a bit more size in the top 4, if they're bumping Manson down.

Dang...that's four firsts. But then again, MacKinnon believes Lehky is equal to 10 firsts, so I guess?

I'd add lol, I mean at that point whatever else it takes fk it, but yeah I don't see how you do Jones and Kadri, but that would be better.

I think Mitts is pretty close to 1:1 in value for Kadri given their ages and cap hits. Small plus perhaps from the Avs. CGY likely got the best years out of Naz already. If they're moving on, I think Mitts would be one of the better guys for them to target and build around.

Jones I don't get the impression would cost an arm and leg, because of his $9.5M cap hit. They're buying low on him hoping for him to play better on a contender for once in his career. Price is mostly dependent on if and how much Chicago retains.

I think they have the assets for both. As you allude to, they should be willing to move out most everything, aside from Nabokov. Ritchie + Gulyayev + 1st should have pretty decent value.

If they're bringing in a 2C and a #3-4RD under contract for multiple years, then there isn't a lot of need for Ritchie and Gulyayev anyway.

Jones could be legit expensive if they retain 2.5M.

You can't just say you're doing them a favor at that point. I'm all for Jones for sure, everyone knows that.

Maybe, but I'm not sure. He turns 31 in October and hasn't come close to fullfilling his potential. $7M still feels like an overpayment.

I think you gotta ask yourself in terms of trade value, would he get $7M at 31 years old, asset free as a UFA? I don't think he would. Not sure how many trading teams would be willing to gamble on him at that price and age.

Maybe you try to get Calgary to take Ritchie in the Naz deal, and Chicago takes Mitts in the package for Jones, if that's preferable.

Yeah, it's CMac's job to try to get the best.

This team with a top 4 RD, and a legit 2C then getting Nuke, and eventually Landeskog back would be legit though.

Either way we need to see Cmac solve two very hard positions to solve in season.

If he's all in, you have to force at least one of them. Maybe both..

Also, Jones has a full NMC.

So he's driving the bus on a trade. Avs should be high on his list for obvious reasons

If he's forcing a trade and they really want it yes, but in season, they still have the leverage of, we'll just keep him and revisit it later.

We need the trade now, not in six months. They'll extract that value.

If Carolina doesn't someone else will. Maybe he doesn't get the 8th year he was looking for, but he's still guaranteed a $12+ mil x 7 yr contract if he hits free agency.
