Okay new plan
Get Colton to waive for NJ to acquire Mercer
Give Mercer a trial run right before TDL
Send Mercer and minor + for a retained Jones at the actual deadline
Or use Mercer+ to get Crouse+Marino

I just wish there was an ounce of thought in his proposals.you know the rules Bob…
Nah I’m just messing around with him.I just wish there was an ounce of thought in his proposals.
Age, pedigree are huge hurdles in this
Not to mentions it’s a down year for Mercer on a good contract
Preds made it clear they’re not moving him. What if we bring back Radar? Are the bridges burnt or can it be rebuilt?
I think he's still friends with Mack. I dunno.
Yep and really that’s all any of us can do , it’s for fun in the end .Nah I’m just messing around with him.
I got no problem with his proposals. You know why? Cause he doesn’t argue the value, doesn’t get mad if you tell him it’s no good. He’s not entrenched in his position. He Just happily throws out random ideas.
sure it’s for fun and I enjoy the discussion. It’s just silly that no thought goes into it from the other side, I just think it could be betterYep and really that’s all any of us can do , it’s for fun in the end .
He's not. Just because at one point a player played C it doesn't mean that's his position forever. The team went ahead and drafted Carlson and McTavish as soon as they could to make sure they'd have decent Centers going forward.Zegras is a C. He had his two best seasons in the NHL playing mostly at the pivot. Again, injuries are a huge concern but I think he’d be perfectly fine in Bednar’s system. He has yet to play for an NHL head coach who has anything remotely resembling an offensive scheme.
If this is possible to make happen they need to do it 100% IMO.
Has it gotten THAT bad?he's frikkin' Galchenyuk at this point.
Right now he's playing wing on a line with Vatrano (career winger) and known defensive liability Ryan Strome as the center.Has it gotten THAT bad?

Zegras is talented but way too floaty for any NHL coach to put him at center. He better hope some team trades for him and pairs him with a talented center AND has a coach that will put up with his defensive shortcomings.
Can't wait to see it...not sure that situation exists.

I mentioned Zetterlund in a post above, as a middle 6 forward addition that would make sense from a cap perspective. I wanted him from NJ since the days of Donskoi/Compher/Kaut, but now that he's broken out he would probably not come cheap. Along with having a really low caphit ($1.45m) he's also an RFA, which CMac obviously values highly.
SJ are really thin at RHD so I wonder if they'd have interest in Malinski as part of a return built around Malinski + NYR 2nd for Zetterlund (plus another pick for 50% retention maybe).
Avs do have plenty of capspace this off-season so they can probably afford Zetterlund's next contract.
Drouin - MacKinnon - Nichushkin
Lehkonen - Mittelstadt - Necas
Colton - Drury - Zetterlund
Wood - Kelly - O'Connor
Parssinen, Kiviranta
Maybe that's a bit overkill without sending another forward out. But perhaps Z could be a replacement for a Colton or Wood if they get moved to balance money in a bigger trade (eg. Jones).
I still maintain the focus should be on the Defense more then anything. Mitts has looked a lot better the last couple of weeks and IMO his specific roster spot might truly be the only area you even really consider upgrading.
Lehky - Mack - Necas
Drouin - Mitts - Nuke
Colton - Drury - Wood
LOC - Kelly - Kivi
That's pretty solid IMO. With Landy as a wildcard that could potentially bump Colton or Wood down... And then Parsninen as a guy that could challenge that 3rd line as well.
But the defense is where we need a lot of help. We really need two guys. Middleton/Malinski should be the #7 and #8 Dmen once the playoffs start.
If Marchand says “I want to chase another cup and play with Mack,” I don’t see how you say no to it. Yeah, most hate him, but he is one of the most entertaining players of our generation, and can still be effective. Just do it and work out the roster after that. The Avs are already log-jammed at wing as it is. Sure, it’s unlikely they’re fully healthy, but the Avs have Drouin, Lehkonen, Nuke, Necas, Colton, LOC as top 9 wings.this doesn’t include Parsinnen or Landeskog if he comes back. I guess you could find perhaps a 3rd line wing improvement.
But the AVS need to use their assets and cap space on dmen. They’re shallow there and can’t absorb any injuries to their top 4. They most definitely need a very good 4/5 defender at minimum. Kylington returning will hopefully tell them if they need a better #6 as well.
I know a few people scoffed at Marchand on the main board, and the guy is definitely insufferable when he’s not on your team BUT, he adds a lot of what’s missing on this team. Agitates the other team, can still score, leadership, isn’t afraid to battle and go to the net for dirty goals, etc.
Like I said though, another forward imo is priority #2 or # 3 depending on who they get as an extra defenseman.
