Washington gives me optimism that our teams window will always have chances to open back up way down the line. As long as we have Mackinnon and Makar. The Rantanen trade really opens flexibility for us.

Although I think Cmac wants to go "all in" this year, I always feel he's one of the gm that values stretching the contention window further out as far as he can. I'm hoping he continues to get guys with term or RFA status, to keep us as competitive as possible.

I really question that IQ.

There’s skill, but not sure about hockey IQ. Zegras does some of the dumbest, low percentage shit I’ve seen almost every game.

He doesn't have great functionnal hockey IQ like Lehky but he plays a cerebral kind of game IMO.

I'm at the point of accepting we will try to solve the 2C position from within. Mitts has historically been a big-game player, so my gut tells me they give him one more chance to show something before they think of cutting bait for a marginal upgrade.

Plan A: See how Mitts looks with healthy wingers (Landeskog would do him wonders)
Plan B: Try Necas there an move Mitts down/to the wing
Place C: Give Parssinen a look - maybe with Necas on the wing

Outside an unexpected trade for Stephenson/Malkin/Nelson (all of which are unlikely), let's target another C to improve depth (ala Gourde) or a legit top 9 winger to insulate our Cs - of which there are plenty of options. (Crouse)

But basically fix the D before anything, and go get Seth Jones.

Zegras wouldn’t solve that. So we are going to spend a bunch of our assets, for a guy that’s trending backwards and isn’t really a C.
