I find it weird that Chicago is showing so much interest and we think that it will be for a small/smallish move.
it doesn't make sense to me to putt so much effort in scouting the Avs/Eagles for weeks to end up with nothing....

With everyone healthy, and Landy on LTIR for the rest of the season, the Avs have roughly $2.6M in cap space. Trade Colton + Malinski + Kylington and get Chicago to retain like $1.5M -$2M and they can aquire Jones. Would leave them with roughly $400k - $900k in cap space.

Even better, get a 3rd team involved to retain another $1M.

The biggest thing with Jones is that he isn't a capable 1D. We all know that. But he wouldn't come here to be a 1D. He'd be fantastic on a 2nd pairing where the responsibility doesn't all fall on him. The biggest issue would be his cap hit and whether or not it's possible to fit him in while also icing a respectable roster elsewhere.

I would bet a lot Mitts is gone. I have a friend who works with the Sharks that has said his name is out there.
Mitts was demoted to the 4th line for just one game a bit ago. The next game right back up to the 2nd line. I kind of wonder if Cmac asked that he be back on the 2nd line so he could be showcased.

There's no way a smallish move is why Chicago is scouting so much, and having their GM do scouting as well. There is definitely some type of big trade brewing, now it getting completed is an entirely different story.
Even if the Avs/Hawks to some more tradition kind of deadline trade (expiring UFA type thing), all this scouting is definitely not for this

Jones makes no sense to me honestly. The top 4 is fine. They need quality depth defensemen not ones signed to absurd contacts.

Focus on the forwards that's where the biggest problems are.

"it'll be a lot easier to recoup value in a Pettersson deal."

I don't get this, it makes no sense. Miller doesn't have a ton of positive value considering his age and contract so of course he's going to get more for EP.

Allvin should choose which guy he's going to keep to build around instead of what kind of return he's getting.

No no, he should try to MAXIMIZE value here.

Send Petey to the Avs, Allvy. You can have Mittelstadt, Colton, Ritchie, and a 1st!

I agree. Manson could be upgraded but that's far from the biggest issue.

Like I wouldn't be mad about acquiring Jones but I don't think helps the team as much as a 2C replacement, a bottom 6 upgrade, and depth defense upgrade. one could argue Jones would push Manson down, but that's a lot of money for a 2nd pairing guy.

Been out of the loop the last week or so, any somewhat reliable speculation involving the Avs?
