Colton will only waive if Wood is included. They would waive together.

Just my opinion.

Hello Avs fans

Where there is smoke there is fire. Looks like something is up. Based off the Dreger speculation one of you posted plus what we know about Davidson being at your recent games, I would be stunned if this wasn’t Jones

Jones has been playing a lot better the past two weeks. He looks happier, like a man that was pulled aside and told they have a move in the process if he’s interested. He clearly isn’t happy being in a rebuild and didn’t sign up for that. I don’t think Jones is washed, and would be perfect behind Makar for your team. He would really form a 3 headed monster with Makar and Toews. My guess is we would retain 20-25 percent on this deal. He’s still a good player but has become a whipping boy on a terrible rebuilding team. We had the same thing with Strome. He was asked to play a role that never suited him and was criticized. He’s now excelling in WSH.

Any sense in what the return could be here? Do you guys have the cap as is with LTIR Landy? I do think Middlestadt makes alot of sense. We only have two NHL Cs and it’s clear Nazar looks way better on the wing with Bedard and they have obvious chemistry. The Manson Illinois connection makes sense but I figured you guys would want him for a run.

Another name I can see you guys adding in this deal is Kurashev. He seems like the kind of guy you have added in the past. He was very good last year but has been brutal this year. Only 25 and make 2.25 RFA after this year. Plays wing can play C in a pinch. When he’s on he could remind of Lehkonen in MTL. When he’s off he looks like he’s bound for Europe.

Simple as this!

- Ivan + Malinski + Wood + 2026 1st for Jones @ $7M

Then in the summer you do:

- Manson to San Jose for COL 2026 2nd(They do this because the defense is a mess and they need to start getting more competitive, plus good locker room guy and veteran leader in Manson. Manson waives cause California).

- Colton to New Jersey for EDM 2025 2nd + DAL 2026 4th

- Re-Sign Mikko to 8x$12.0M
- Re-Sign Drouin to 1x$2.5M
- Re-Sign Kivi to 1x$1M
- Re-Sign Parsinen to 1x$800k

Drouin(2.5) - Mack(12.6) - Mikko(12.0)
Lehky(4.5) - Mitts(5.75) - Nuke(6.125)
Landy(7.0) - Ritchie(0.9) - LOC(2.5)
Kivi(1.0) - Parsnip(0.8) - Kelly(0.8)

Toews(7.25) - Makar(9.0)
Girard(5.0) - Jones(7.0)
????(1.0) - ????(1.0)

Blackwood(5.25)
Wedgewood(1.5)

Total Cap: $93.475M

Simple! With a $95M cap they'll even have enough to carry almost 2 extra skaters.

Get more retention on Jones. Send Rantanen away at the deadline to the Canucks.

Maybe Jones is like Zadorov and this is finally the year that he breaks out! Jokes aside, if they can actually get him with a fair chunk of retention that could be a massive addition. A top-4 of Makar, Toews, Jones and Girard would go a long ways towards solidifying the teams ability to consistently move the puck up ice. It naturally bumps Manson down, if we can get a cheap, defensively efficient LD that gives us a really solid defense for one run at least. I would assume changes would have to be made in the off-season due to the cap.

It would mean that we'd really be down to the bare minimum for expendable assets to upgrade the 2C position.

am I in an alternate universe? We're wanting Seth Jones? And people are okay with it if he's coming in with like 6m caphit, to play on the 2nd pairing, for this year and the next 5 years.

I know the Avs are in a rut... but dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Much the same as Avs management, when we've wanted a player in the past, we will find a way to cheer the acquisition of that player. Seth Jones come back home.

I don't get it either. Has Seth Jones ever even come close to fulfilling the hype? I can't recall ever being wowed by him once in an NHL game. He's 30 years old. He might look better on the Avs, but he's not going to suddenly turn into the player people always thought he could be.

His top highlight on YouTube is that time when Kane yelled "WTF are you doing?" on the power play. Literally— it's the first result if you search "Seth Jones."

Avs need a center way more than they need another defenseman. Especially a defenseman with one of the biggest cap hits in the league.

Have we been scouting the Hawks as intensively as they have us? I suppose if CMac has been wanting Jones for a while now it wouldn't be necessary, but 6 points in his last 5 games would've been a pretty good showcase for a pro scout. @CanadianHawks may be onto something there

Last time I can remember Davidson doing this was McCabe to the Leafs, and Hagel to TB before that. He’s not exactly Lou Lam. Only twice in his tenure have we seen this. I think that indicates this will be fairly substantial.

It's a bit of a risk, but there's still decent upside. Jones would fit well into the system and give us flexibility moving forward since he's a RHD.

I definitely wouldn't overpay to get him, but if it just costs a bunch of spare parts + 1st for a $6 mil Jones i'd consider it.

Is Seth Jones even any good this days? I haven’t really watched many Hawks games to know

He’s a bit infuriating but he’s got game. He was very good to start the year. As good as he’s been as a Hawk. Everyone saying he was the top pair guy we acquired. Got hurt, came back and was an absolute disaster. Also needs to be noted was a coaching change in between where we went from ultra conservative to much more open up.

Now in the past 5 games he looks very good again and has 6 points, not that I would usually measure his game by point production. His timeline and our timeline are completely incompatible. I was fine with keeping him to mentor our young D but it seems like the inevitable is gonna play out here.

Jones went from a tire fire at the end of his time in CBJ that final year with Tortz and everyone wanting to jump ship. Gets traded to Chicago and ten games in we hadn’t won a game, scandal hits, Bowman is fired shortly after and then Davidson is brought in as interim. Fires incompetent Colliton. Before you know it we are entering a rebuild before his new deal has even begun. Guy went from one shitshow to another. He looks completely checked out at times but if motivated on a team with a real established core I can see him excelling.

Jones (9.5M AAV) is a righty so he'd have to replace Manson (4.5M AAV).

How much better than Manson is Jones these days? Hawks would have to retain a ton of money and we'd have to pay them dearly to do so.

For a team with no cap space and almost no assets left that move just doesn't make any sense to me.

I think it would be pretty crazy to get Jones on this team, think he could really flourish.

Without having to deal with being "the guy" on a defensive unit, I think he could settle kind of into what Girard is for the Avs. Except Jones is what every wishes Girard was (size and RHD).

Obviously cap is always an issue that needs to be looked at, but if retention was worked in, think Jones with some retention would be a steal for the Avs.

Toews-Makar
Girard-Jones

For the next 3 playoff runs would be insane.

Acquire Seth Jones, trade for Barzal, commit to out skating everyone and hope for quick strike offense
I'd be up for that. Barzal is one of my favourite players in the league.

As for Jones, if there's a way they can make it work - I think it would be a really good move. Right now, as a #1D - he's being asked to do a lot but on the Avs, he'd be a #3 behind Makar. Speaking of which, could also help in reducing his minutes and keeping him fresher the rest of the way.

This move would also almost assuredly relegate Manson to #5D he can play his role but you're adjusting his minutes. He'd very likely be a candidate to move on in the off-season as many others have suggested.

Jones would be able to take huge minutes for us. He would shift Makar to PK2, or if Manson is still here, take Cale off the PK altogether.

Not only does he give us the size we desperately lack, he’s a smooth skater and fits right into what Bednar expects of his defensemen. He can retrieve the puck with speed, skate it out or make the long stretch pass on the breakout.

Moving him to an environment where he doesn’t need to be “the guy” could see him flourish and be absolutely elite.

The salary is a huge issue, but if we could pull this off, we immediately have the best top 4 in the NHL, IMO.

I’d have to imagine a Jones trade means Manson going. I just don’t see how the cap fits.

Does anyone have the slightest ideas how much space we have?
