Let's not forget that with a 12M+ contract for Mikko would also possibly negatively affects how much they could get themselves in the future. More money for the top guys means less money for the bottom guys.

Also winning would make them forget about Mikko pretty quickly. That is assuming of course that the team would be better constructed and therefore winning more.

Whether we sign Rantanen or trade him, each scenario can ultimately be really good or absolutely terrible.
There are so many moving parts.

The trade would have to be an absolute home run to make it worthwhile. Because cap space isn’t all that great a commodity for us. We have extremely limited trade capital to use up the cap space in a trade. And players generally don’t want to come here as UFAs.
You would need an impact-style return to make a trade.

Yeah I don’t think trading Mikko has a positive impact on the locker room at all.

Mikko will most likely walk as a UFA, i'm wondering who is going to be this year's version of the Iginla signing.
 
So, we're trading Moose because we have so much high-end depth on wing? I mean, I guess we have cocaine bear...oh wait. He'll possibly go AWOL.
At least we have Landy? TBD/FAFO. Well, the other guys that have playoff experience will be there. What's this? They're Avs and have a death certificate all filled out because they're likely to be on IRDead?

Sure. But I don’t think that trading Mikko who’s one of the best players in the league/team and is a good friend to a bunch of dudes in that locker room is going to go over well with the team.

We like MacK to be pouty and feel like he has to carry the team even more than usual. I can't get enough of him trying to split 2-3 defenders and doing the spinning wheel shot into the ether. :sarcasm:

I’ve seen all the talk about Hawks scouting us a lot lately. And connections seem to point at Taylor Hall as who we’re looking at. But I think I’d prefer it to be Connor Murphy. He’d be a nice asset to have for next year and a half at 4.4. And can possibly see if Hawks will retain something around 500K-1M. They have 1 retention spot left but 2 open up after this year.

But it’s fairly obvious what this team still needs. Like last years TDL, we need to be all in. We don’t have much time left. My Amazon wish list for up until TDL;

Middle six winger

Obviously it’ll be difficult to navigate with the cap, but that’s where the CMac brain and new AGM guy they hired that specializes in the cap. Andrew Wilson I think is the name.

Who do you takes from either team in a deal that's not futures heavy?

Devils :

Hischer (captain? unlikely)
Jack or luke Hughes (even more unlikely)
Meier? Grosssss
That top pick that is pouting about being in the ahl? Meh

Canes :
Svech (can't stay healthy)
Aho (unlikely)
Jarvis (probably unlikely too)

I don't see a trade where we don't lose hard this year for mikko with those teams :(... I am also on the trade mikko front but I'd like an impact forward back.. Hard to see a fit though #bradytkachukplz

Chicago has two retention slots, three next year.

But I am with you that Murphy would be my target from Chicago.

Yeah, I get it. I have no idea with NJ tbh.

Add Necas to that list for NC.

I personally wouldn't mind Svech. More two way hard nosed play in the top six is never a bad thing.

The Hawks stood out due to the stretch of games they watched, took in at least one Eagles game, and Davidson himself took in Mondays game. So they’re standing out as prime trade candidate is what I was implying.

But it will most likely be more accepted in the locker room if it means they can keep Drouin...another player that is loved in the locker room. Everybody knows itis a business. As I said before winning helps forgetting.

OK, but there were 4 or 5 teams that people were mentioning that were going to a lot of games, including the Eagles. On one hand, if they have similarities in what they represent as trade options, maybe that means something? Or, if it’s a mixed bag in terms of what they present as trade options, maybe that means something else?
 
Still need a real top 4D who can push Manson down the lineup and limit the hard minutes Makar is incapable of playing.

And a top 6 forward. A guy you want in your top 6. Not Granlund and whatever garbage de jour Montreal plans to peddle at the deadline.
