Rantanen to Chicago makes SO much sense when you consider what kind of GM Kyle is. He probably knows they are a long ways out from truly competing but getting Bedard a 'trigger-man' like Rantanen to keep the fans interested and excited - I could really see it.Hawks mgmt are doing a lowsy job scouting if they're here to watch games Nuke isn't even playing in.
I think they're looking at Rantanen. Makes the most sense to me that they'd be putting in so much effort considering the price tag he'll command. The Avs are full of middling players. Don't need 5 games and your GM to scout for that.
I don't see Rants accepting a trade to a non playoff team. Maybe he could sign there as an UFA but that wouldn't help us.Rantanen to Chicago makes SO much sense when you consider what kind of GM Kyle is. I also think he's one GM that wouldn't balk at Rants asking price and have no problems at all giving him what he wants. As far as Rants, he gets what he wants and that's the bag.
The only question would be what would the Avs get in return? Seth Jones as a middle pairing guy would be pretty good and could help keep Makar's minutes down a bit.
There would need to be a subsequent move like Mitts+ for Zibanejad or something...
I don't get this. He'd be okay signing for 7 years in UFA, but not okay with being traded and signing for 8 years?I don't see Rants accepting a trade to a non playoff team. Maybe he could sign there as an UFA but that wouldn't help us.

I’m more open to trading Rantanen than I’ve ever been. I realize the cap is changing so the Mackinnon internal cap can’t be a thing forever. But it can definitely be a thing for right now.
Mikko Rantanen is a really good hockey player and an ELITE finisher, but dude come on. You don’t get nearly as much dough if it isn’t for 29. You held out the last time and ended up taking a contract making way more than Mackinnon but that’s whatever, Mackinnon was underpaid and you were worth the 9.25 you got which made you the highest paid player on the team for most of the duration of the contract. But now just a year after Mackinnon’s new contract kicks in you expect to be paid more? Go f*** yourself.
He’s not in the same stratosphere of a hockey player as Nathan Mackinnon. The cap is growing and perhaps on paper you’re worth around that 12.6 or perhaps even a couple hundred K more. But be a team player and fit into that structure. Be a teammate and take a shade less than the guy who put god knows how many extra mil in career earnings in your pocket. Be a member of the Avalanche or here, Chicago, Carolina and whoever else are asking for permission to speak to you about your contract demands before we facilitate a deal.

What the hell are the Blackhawks going to trade for us lolAlso if Davidson was indeed there to scout the Avs roster yesterday, put me in the camp that thinks he was there to watch Rantanen more than anyone.
Bedard for 2C obviously. What the hell are the Blackhawks going to trade for us lol
I still think it makes zero sense for Rants to sign there. I understand loving money but he can love money in a competitive team, not in a team that still won't make the playoffs for at least 5 years. Not at age 29 anyway. Also if Davidson was indeed there to scout the Avs roster yesterday, put me in the camp that thinks he was there to watch Rantanen more than anyone.
Yeah it has nothing to do with how the contract will age, we already know how it will.Nice to see more people are starting to come around on a Mikko trade. Anything above 12.5M will kill the depth even more and I am not even talking about how that contract will age.
Remember.....it is all about the return and how we can improve the roster with the savings.
I doubt the Canes are going to get both JT Miller and RantanenStaple a talented guy like Necas next to Mackinnon and the drop of production from Rants to Necas would be a lot less than people would like to believe.
It's looking more and more like that's not realistic possibility, even with Rantanen. If there's a team out there that wants to make a hockey trade and give us a piece or two that immediately contributes and works within the reality of our cap, I'm very open to it. My concern is, as an impending UFA, his value is the usual mid-roster player + 1st + prospect package and that just doesn't interest me. I'd rather keep him for Mikko playoff mode and one more run if that's the case.

I don't see that happening unless they get a new coach and/or Landy.Motivated team + relatively healthy + Blackwood hot = a hope and a prayer.
It doesn't make sense to you or I with our perspective on how we view things but for a guy with that kind of ego, he'd probably believe that he'd singlehandedly elevate Chicago to playoff team and his absence would relegate the Avs to a non-playoff team.I still think it makes zero sense for Rants to sign there. I understand loving money but he can love money in a competitive team, not in a team that still won't make the playoffs for at least 5 years. Not at age 29 anyway.
That first part is the problem.Motivated team + relatively healthy + Blackwood hot = a hope and a prayer.
We know what the problem is. Injuries have crushed the Avs this year so Bednar decides to overplay top guys and run them into the ground. We see it in real time now. Makar and MacKinnon don't have the same energy levels nightly. That first part is the problem.
Actually, scratch that. The first part and that 2nd part are both the problem.
In truth, I'm not entirely certain if the issue with Colorado this year, is motivation. Or injuries. As @Bender has said several times, they seem off, seem stale. Could be, they're just not all that good at playing hockey together.
