If we trade him, who will play Mikko's two-minute shift at the end of the game when the other teams pull their goalie? Legit question. :sarcasm:

Necas has always been my target if Mikko ever got traded

A 6'3 right hand shot winger for Mack. Sure he's signed for 1 more year, but that relationship with Carolina is broken; it was a struggle just to sign him to 2 years last summer, straight to UFA. And anytime I see a speed burst chart of top NHL players, Mack and McDavid are 1-2, but Necas is always in the top10 too.

You can afford Necas and another 5m winger (like Drouin, if he stays healthy) at the same price as 1 Moose. Or you pocket that 5m and trade Mitts for like a better 2C who makes ~10m

NYI has a big incentive to go after Rantanen. They’re always starved for offense. He’d be their most skilled offensive player. He’s in his prime. One would think, Lou would offer something substantial.

they don't have anything substantial. Unless it's Dobson coming our way.

Horvat or Barzal has appeal. But whichever, I’d expect a 1st or two since Mikko is the superior player.

Don’t hate the idea of Nelson that I’ve seen mentioned but not for Mikko.
I mean… I guess. They’d be nice additions to the team but as Mikko replacements I see little appeal at their ages and cap hits. Actually the more I think about Barzal the less I want him.

I think Barzal could thrive on the Avs. There’s definitely risk though. But the Islanders have recently been a team that will trade three pounds of its offense for one more pound of defense.

I’d be ok with Horvat too. The way he scores goals in the dirty areas is useful in the post season. And if I’m not mistaken, he has pretty good PS numbers.

I've seen folks trashing Nelson here and I will not stand for it. :sarcasm: *sits down* You may continue now.

I actually have an appreciately for Gunner Nelson, he created Scrap Metal several years ago. Basically a bunch of the lead singers from 80s bands go on tour together as a band themselves. They all basically become the band and take turns on leads performing the hits they were known for. They actually came to Alaska pre-covid with a lineup that included Gunner Nelson, Mark Slaughter (Slaughter), Lita Ford, and Jack Russell (RIP, he was the lead singer for Great White). I'm pretty sure Eric Martin was on stage and playing but they didn't do any Mr. Big tunes that night.
