Well Ivan is giving them a good show if there's interest at least... 1+1 so far with the Eagles, 3-3 in the 3rd.



I could see Ivan + NYR 2nd being a very attractive package for a few teams over the next couple of months. Could see Prishchepov being another piece teams look at.

All of that would be underwhelming for Rantanen.

Necas will be UFA a year after Mikko. Sebastian Aho has a better contract, but I don't see Canes trading him. I think they want Mikko to play with him and be their version of our MacKinnon-Rantanen pair.
 
I know some people here dont like Svech but he would be my target from the Canes. You cant tell me he wouldn't score 50 playing next to Mack.


The other guy I would target out of Carolina is Chatfield. That's a legit Top 4D and only making $3M for 3 more playoff runs.

People really need to come down to Earth on what a return for 3 months of Rantanen would get us.

This is ultimately why I cant imagine the Avs trading him. You're 100% guaranteed to lose the trade in an ugly way at this stage in the game because yeah you're basically trading a 30 game rental.

Personally the only scenario where I consider trading Rantanen is if some team is crazy enough to actually give full value for him. If someone like Carolina felt 100% confident they'd be able to sign him without any issue and was prepared to offer that kind of package to get him... Then sure you at least listen to what they're offering.

But realistically even for a Top 10-15 player in the world, only 30 games before he's a UFA free to go wherever he wants, you aren't getting much more then that typical 1st + prospect + mid pick. Maybe each of those pieces look a little better because of how good Mikko is, IE maybe the prospect is an A-tier guy, maybe the mid pick is actually a 2nd.... But at the end of the day its still a pretty middling package of futures for one of the best wingers in the game. But that's what you get when you only have a guys rights for 3 more months.



On another note:




Didn't see if this tweet was mentioned here today or not, but with Malinski struggling I could for sure see the Avs trying to add Klingberg especially considering the interest they've had in the past. No idea if he can play anymore with the surgery but maybe it helps his mobility and he's actually decent again. Could be a worthwhile gamble especially if you do it early enough(IE the next week or so) and give yourself enough time before the deadline to evaluate and determine if its working or not.

Why don’t you think it could a sign and trade? Stone would be a recent similar example of it.

I do wonder if part of the waiving of Ludvig has to do with the Avs working on a Klingberg signing. His upside is certainly higher than any one of the current depth players, and definitely higher than anyone else we could get for free. While we're at it, may as well sign Jon Toews (I'm serious about Klingberg, only half joking about Toews)
