After reading this I really wonder what kind of return we'd have got for Rants if CMac allowed other teams to talk to him.

He obviously didn't want them to talk to him because then Mikko would have knew that they are trying to trade him and there's no going back if the trade doesn't work. Tough spot.

Boy is it real worrisome about Landeskog. I go back and forth on it all the time. I just can't see how he suits up again if it's 4 months past the initial timeline and he can only do slow paced morning skates.

He's not going to stop though unless his body just stops cooperating. So he's coming back at some point.

So Canes are just renting Rantanen. Interesting. Pretty crazy actually. We def. got good value for Rantanen, if he was only rental. I would say incredible value.

Rantanen's been gone one game and we're back on Kadri. Fantastic.

Kadri never left mate. People will talk about him even after his retirement.

Could go either way. If you get a team that’s willing to talk and get an extension, sure you likely get a bit better of a deal.

On the other hand, if Rantanen isn’t willing to negotiate, you completely eliminate that trade partner. The other problem you create is, if Rantanen doesn’t want to extend, Carolina may realize they’re the only ones willing to trade for him and could lowball you even more.

Yeah, but they had probably the best shot in the free market too. So they valued getting him for this run very highly.

Not really concerned with Naz’s age when he’s such a good skater. He will be a better skater at 50 years old than Mittelstadt is today in his prime.

Regarding the last two years of the deal, who cares? We will likely be shit anyways.

He knows the system. He plays with speed and bite. Shoot first mentality which would be great with all of our pass first dudes.

Kadri has never hidden the fact that Denver were the best years of his hockey life.

So funny because as I'm laying in bed last night I'm starting to think about how bringing Naz back probably makes the most sense.

For all of the reasons you mentioned. Fills the 2C hole, shoot-first, plays with an edge etc etc.

But mostly because he's a big personality and a friendly face. There is a personality void in the core now and we need to bring one back in the next move. Necas has a ton of skill but he doesn't strike me as that guy. Plus there's the added bonus of potentially bringing Andersson back with Kadri - which at this point CMac needs to say f*** it and go all in. I wouldn't even mind seeing if there's a way to include Coleman if we sent Wood + Colton as well.

Mitts has to show a lot before the deadline to feel comfortable with him heading in the POs. I'm only moving Mitts for a clear upgrade, otherwise it makes sense to just get a guy that can supplant him temporarily at 2C if needed but is more of a 3rd line guy (someone like Gourde perhaps)

That is a deep, deep group IMO. Manson as the #5D would be just as deep as the 2022 Cup team on Defense. Landy and Colton on the 3rd line, LOC back on the 4th line. Presumably not quite as much elite firepower at the top end with the downgrade from Mikko to Necase but also I guess lets wait and see how Necas looks next to Mack in 25 games.

But also, the goaltending would be worlds better.

Rantanen and his agent definitely have more "hand" with Carolina than they did with the Avs. Yeah, I know that Tulsky and the Canes never sign bad contracts and have a pristine cap sheet, but I think they are ready to take all that well-managed cap space and give a portion of that to a unicorn-like player like Mikko, especially after losing out on Geuntzel during negotiations.

Yeah, it’s created about 6-7M for next season.
But next season only. After that, it could be anywhere from 2-3M to 12-14M. Unknown depending on the contracts of Necas and Rants.
