Cap space update:

Miles Wood comes off IR tomorrow and we go down to $3,179,000 cap space.

With Wood, we would be at 15 forwards and 8 defensemen. That’s illegal.

2 guys will be sent down before the game. Possibly 3.

Innala - 870k
Wagner - 775k
Middleton - 775k

If 2 of those 3 go down, frees up another $1,550,000 or $1,645,000 if Innala is one of them.

That would give us either $4,729,000 or $4,824,000(if Innala is one of them) in cap space.

If we send all 3 down, we would have $5,599,000 in cap space.

That would be $5,599,000 cap space with a roster of 13 forwards + 7 defensemen + 2 goalies with Landeskog and Poolman on LTIR.

Best lineup with those 23 active players(yes, I know Nuke isn’t playing yet):

Drouin - MacKinnon - Necas
Lehkonen - Mittelstadt - Nichushkin
Wood - Colton - O’Connor
Kelly - Drury - Kiviranta
Parssinen

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
de Haan - Malinski
Kylington

Blackwood
Wedgewood

$5,599,000 in cap space.

Landeskog($7m) and Poolman($2m) on LTIR.

Landy really is coming back soon, isn't he.
That's my view as well, no way the organization is taking a downgrade from Mikko at this point unless it's obvious that Gabe is coming back.

Sigh, another part that sucks is that the last time we saw Mikko and Landy together was at the cup final...

Colton + Malinski + NYR 2nd for Jones ($2M retained) is easily doable, and would still leave $3.34M in cap space to use.

I don't see the need for Jones. If anything, the Avs need a left hand shooter.

Watching Necas highlights, he plays exactly where Mack plays on the PP, so be interesting what they do on the PP now. At least they'll do something different than the crap that hasn't been working for 2 months now.

Will be fascinating actually. We've lost that big LH shot - do they use Colton or Toews there instead? Drouin? Does Landeskog come to play the net front?

Not even sure where Necas fits on the PP - certainly not in the Umbrella with the two other righties

My heart is crying my brain is thankful. Glad Mikko got the cup with us. Wont ever forget it.

Now Necas should immediately show what his deal is and why so many here wanted him 🙏🏻

I still think there's a very real chance Jones is going to get traded here. Only way to explain the Hawks helping facilitate this deal and scouting us for 5 straight games.

I imagine the deal couldn't get done as Carolina probably had a deadline given they were very close getting, but a Jones trade is still in the works.
That's my assumption too. The additional Avs / Hawks part was too difficult to work out, so they just pulled the trigger on what they had to get that locked in before someone has a season ending injury

If there is a separate trade, I would expect it would be seem a tad lopsided in Chicago's favor to account for their clear L in the three-way

I would also see that. Now they basically got nothing in this trade. Lost a player and took salary.

I loved the Pärssinen trade. I think he briefly showed what he can do, but Bednar hated him for playing well those few games and now he is given no opportunities.

That trade feels like a waste now. Where would we even slot Pärssinen now? Drury will be our 3C and do a fine job. Pärssinen has 2C potential IMO, but right now it's mostly potential and he isn't given any chance to grow and develop. He isn't a winger, he isn't going to be slotted in any of the center spots.. what do we do with him?

So the Hawks having no retention slot left can't retain on Jones.

Also the Avs don't have a lot more cap space after the Rants trade since Drury is making 1.725M and Wood is being reactivated (2.5M).

Wouldn't be shocked if CMac thinks Necas can play 2C to give the team two elite transition centers in Mackinnon and Necas down the middle. Then turn around and swap Mittelstadt for Jones.

Mittelstadt ($5.75m) + Rantanen ($9.25m) is $15m.

Necas ($6.5m) + Jones ($9.5m) is $16m.

Just $1m apart there.

Drouin - MacKinnon - Nichushkin
Lehkonen - Necas - Colton
Wood - Drury - LOC

Toews - Makar
Girard - Jones
