I just 100% disagree. When you look at the TOI, you have to realize just how severly Bednar has tied our chances on the top 5 playing 30+ minutes a night. The reason being, they are the only 5 players in the world capable of playing his system and they can't even play it as well as they did 3 years ago. *Danger, Will Robinson!*

The reason Bednar tied his wagon so strongly to the first unit is because when they are on, they are they only ones in the NHL that can play it, and he's got nothing else. He's never adjusted in game well, probably because he doesn't know how else to tell them to play. You keep looking at our bottom nine and saying they suck. I look at them and say that most NHL coaches could find a use for them. Expecially Casey, Jusso, and Ross. In fact, if Bednar wasn't so gung-ho on trying to get his 3rd and 4th lines to play like his 1st and allowed them to play the body like they are supposed to and like CMac brought them in to do, they'd be not only playing much better but actually able to contribute since they would playing to their strengths.

Pefect example is CMac giving an interview the day he traded Mikko and he said that he brought Drury in to be that 3C we needed. What does Bednar do? Sticks him on the 4th line for several games.

I love Bednar. I will never not get emotional watching his speech at the end of the parade. But I really, really do not enjoy seeing him squirm like this with no answers.

THIS!

My god, all I can see is a petulant child who refuses to give up on trying to bash square pegs into round holes and vice versa. CMac needs to take the hammer away from Bednar and mechanically agitate his head with it.

It's possible that both are true. Did you see Colton start hitting guys and going to the net in the third period after he was moved to Mack's wing? It was night and day from the wet noodle he's been.

What is it though.. was he just pouting on the third line, did Bednar coach the snarl out of him?

It is really disconcerting that Bednar "liked their game outside of the result" against Nashville. A team you you're significantly better than and you let them choke the life out of you? That game was infuriating to watch especially coming out of a two week break for everyone not in the tournament. They were sleepwalking.

Wait.... CMac envisioned Casey or Jusso as a 2C?

I sorta remember CMac saying he was brought in to play 3C, and my impression was that was in order to shift Kelly to wing. Although...man, I'm not finding that anywhere now so... take it for what it's worth at this point, just the rememberences of a senile old fart.

I think the 3C was the main gist, but also mentioned possibly having more upside either alluding to it or directly saying it. Can't remember which.

Most interesting is the xGF and aGF. Possession/scoring chances are a mirror image of each other.

It's hard to break it down by line, because there have been so many combos. I've done the best I can below:

Only Bednar believes the fkn myth that Colton and Wood belong on the same line together lol.

I’m surprised he hasn’t tried Wood Colton LOC this year

I understand not putting Colton at center. You'd think he'd bring some scoring punch to the bottom six after what he did at wing before the injury.

Which is why I wanted to see him with two intelligent players in Drury and LOC. It's clear he's best when he needs to think as little as possible.

I don't give a rats ass about Wood scoring, but you've got to try to get Colton going.

not to say there's a correlation....but..... it's weird that Mitts started going down hill after those articles of Mitts starting to hang out with mack doing drills and training together started coming out....

maybe he just cant handle the demands mack is putting on not only himself but the team and its all psychological at this point.

i cant imagine training with the mvp of the league and then having doubts on your own ability

coming from the cakewalk of pressure and losing in buffalo was nothing compared to the intensity of mack and the standards the leaders on the team have

Yeah, both can be and most likely are true. But the fact that CMac brought Colton and Wood in to bash and bang. He brought Parker in to do the same. He then had to go and get Jusso in order to bump Parker to the wing in the hopes that would get him banging and crashing. CMac is going out of his f***ing way to give us a bottom six that skate and hit. Ross, Miles, Logan, Jack, Parker and Juuso can all play a hell of a lot heavier. Maybe not Drury so much but he's got the skill to be more stick agressive and rely on positional awareness.

It could be the only time a player has the green light to play physically in the regular season.

You mean the playoffs?

Naw, I mean when a player like Ross or Wood gets moved up to the top line, that is the only time in the regular season where Bednar Cries Havoc and lets slip the dogs of war.

He wants it all over the place in the playoffs, but in the regular season it'll mostly get them stuck in a doghouse.

Ahh, gotcha

I just haven't watched enough of STlosers to have an opinion on Schenn.

I was also too infuriated with our own team to pay attention last night.

Just give me Kadri please.

I'm sorry... I'm can absolutely see why the guy is available, having a hard time seeing why he would be wanted.

You can be pro-Bednar but still recognize that he has issues adapting, and that includes to players (so not just against opposing coaches).

Mittlestadt has a skillset that should be able to work here, but Bednar has to be willing to bend and find a way to incorporate him in a manner that best suits his skills.
Bednar isn't telling Mittelstadt to lose puck battles and make bad passes. No system in the NHL asks players to do that
