Just checked to see that we still have our 1st and 2nd round pick? We just don't have our 3rd and 4th (but have Ottawa's 4th)?

Define high end players. Trading Pettersson, Hughes or Demko would turn this into a rebuild. Trading Miller or Boeser would make sense if we're going to retool, but wouldn't make sense from the perspective that they're the ones that are actually playing well.
Makes you wonder though. If this year isn't very good then all those players listed have only played in one winning season ever. How many losing season's before a rebuild anyway? The last 12 years have had two regular playoff appearance and one Covid added playin/playoff that under normal season they would not have earned.

Yes, you called :D
Even if we’re floundering about halfway into the season, I still see them trading our first rounder, so I don’t see the point of this thread.
Tocchet is all in to secure his next contract, these are the players he wanted as was said in the interview so ya, but there is no cap space so any trade is for a rental and trading away 1rst's for rentals without cap space is almost suicide eventually and at sometime
Elias Pettersson and the sh^tty management during the (yes, I'm talking the D) summer is going to sink this team.

might as well jump on the Tank Thread as it's been awhile.

IMO a tank thread is a little premature if only considering THIS season but if thinking the bigger picture, future planning then maybe not because this group and cap space aren't very promising in 2+ years.

Come on now. I know this sort of thread made sense when we were mired in Benning's reign of ineptitude, but the Canucks are now performing so well that...

*checks the standings*

So tell me more about the 2025 draft class...

They need to shutdown Pettersson and Demko and see this season as a right off. Have everyone 100% and ready to go next year. Get a badly needed top centre prospect in this years draft.

How quality is this year's first round?

I wonder if taking a gap year makes sense. They clearly don't have the horses to compete. Try to flip some players for picks perhaps.

Beautiful regulation loss.

6 game roady, hopefully can get at least 4 regulation losses.

Some juicy pieces that can be traded at the deadline.

That was just said when miller went down… maybe it will, but maybe it won’t.
Half saying this with tongue in cheek - hate thinking about tanking but this season is now so depressing you look for some comfort somewhere - like I image Alriksson and Martone as book ends - got live on dreams sometimes.

Good to see them pumping Pettersson's value before they unload him.

How many 1sts can we get for Hughes?

The HF board contingency of our fanbase's total lack of interest in this thread this season is one of the best indicators for me that things are going even better for this team than I had realized. Hope to see that continue.

With Hughes out indefinitely, Pettersson likely to miss a few games and this defensive core unable to hold onto a 3 goal lead for more than 5 minutes, we could really see ourselves outside of a playoff spot soon.

Originally I was open to trading picks and prospects to shore up the defensive core, but at this point I'm leaning towards retaining all of our assets and if we miss the playoffs, then we miss.

In fact, I'm not opposed to us being sellers at the deadline.

We have Hughes for two more years after this. I think a re-tool is possible. One year from now, maybe Pettersson is his old self again. Also gives us more time to address the defense and guys like Lekkerimaki and Willander might crack the lineup.

this is a huge blow to us. Losing Pettersson, Hronek and Huges, so we're missing our top 2 defenders, and our top scorer, this is bad. I really don't think its a good idea trading our 1st round pick this year.

Huges is gone for (week to week) hronek is still gone for 4 weeks, Petey should be less than a week?

We got too many value contracts at the moment to be selling
