The scouting report makes him seam like a nastier Emery with perhaps lower offensive upside. Anything we get from him is gravy but at least he fits an organizational need.

It's pretty clear to me that Drury is over the 'soft' version of the Rangers and is actively looking to draft, sign and develop players who play with a chip on their shoulder. I do expect to see Sykora, Chmelar, Berard and Othmann playing for the Rangers in the next couple of years.

I think they do, it's just a different skill set. Cuylle is a good example. So is Berard. They are guys who can play a few different roles

Unfortunately there are not many, if any at all, who will play young guys over vets if their job is to win now. I think Laviolette has been a huge disappointment as coach though.

No coach with aspirations of being competitive at the NHL level (as the Rangers rightfully are) is going to forgo the known (vets) for a mystery box. Their livelihoods depend on winning games, not making prospects look good in 4-5 years.

There are guys who are able to balance both.

Deboer has had no problem incorporating young players in with established vets in Dallas.
