2024-2025 Prospect Watch

Gabe Smith with another game winner and 4pts in an elimination game vs RImouski at the Memorial Cup. Semifinal is tomorrow vs London.
Smith's last goal and assist were both empty netters, but he had a good game. Probably should have been called for interference on that 4th goal, but he's such a big body out there that sometimes I think guys just run into him incidentally too.

It was a fun game and I'm glad Smith and Desnoyers get another shot against the Knights.

Have only watched the games in fits and starts. Stat wise Desnoyers has been invisible. Has he played like a top prospect?

All of Moncton's forwards have hit a bit of a wall as far as production in this Memorial Cup, except for yesterday. They steamrolled through the QMJHL playoffs but London and Medicine Hat are of a different caliber and it shows.

Desnoyers has a high compete level and showed some creativity on the PP and some bite on the forecheck a bit yesterday too. He's regularly playing against the other teams' top lines and generally holding his own. Still, I get the impression he's more like a 1B type center prospect. But he's the youngest guy on the team, so there's still a good bit of development runway there too.

It seems to me they chose to sign Goldsmith over Kipkie. Given the crazy depth at LHD, someone wasn't going to get signed. It looks like they went with the guy with truculence and snarl, even though Kipkie had good development for a 5th round pick.

and given Kipkie's production...a trade was warranted...just don't lose him for nothing...there had to be a team out there that wanted early negotiation rights to Kipkie
