With how many playoff games and high pressure series has he played in ? Hughes?

Charlie has been an assist captain and Im sure will be leaned on to shut guys down more than Hughes will be.

Maybe Im bias Seems like Charlie is a great choice

He got to Conference finals in 2020. Two series last year.

But I'm not saying McAvoy is a bad choice. He wouldn't of been my first choice. Reality is none of the D-men stand out from a leadership perspective.

Great question there. Charlie seems very well liked by his teammates and deserves an A on the bruins, but cant help to think he'll probably receive some friendly ribbing from his USA teammates on his selection to wear an A for them as Im sure Sullivan had a lot to say about it .

A lot of great Leaders on team USA who wears an A or is their teams Captain.
Bill Guerin is the GM of Team USA. He's the one who decided who got the letters not Sullivan. Mike Sullivan isn't going to treat his son-in-law differently. When they are on the ice, that goes out the window and they are coach and player. They've both said that over the years.

Also, CMac has worn a letter for Team USA in the past as well as at BU. It really shouldn't surprise anyone that he's wearing a letter in this tournament.

Here is an excellent write up about the relationship between Mike Sullivan and CMac.

This 4 Nations roster will likely be the US Olympic roster is Milan-Cortina. Mike Sullivan has been named the head coach.

This is the coaching staff for Team USA in the 4 Nations tournament: Mike Sullivan is the head coach of Team USA, with assistant coaches John Tortorella, John Hynes and David Quinn. Mike Buckley is serving as the U.S. goaltending coach, with Mike King and Madison Nikkel the team's video coaches.

Regardless I'd be shocked if he'd didn't get any ribbing. And why would Guerin be solely responsible of picking your captains. sully behind the bench, one would think he'd have just as much if not more of a say. Not buying it was Guerins choice and his only.

Mike Sullivan was a disaster during his Bruins tenure. And I'll say honestly the reasons his Penguins teams won Cups are Crosby, Malkin & Letang. He's floundering now that Crosby & Malkin are running on fumes and Letang is gone.

I'm with you- new coaching blood is desperately needed in Boston.

Yes, Sullivan was wound tighter than a Swiss watch with the Bruins but those teams were, to put it charitably, not very good.

It's a bit unfair to suggest he had nothing whatever to do with three championships. However loaded, the Penguins still needed a coach, and I've never heard any of them complain Sullivan was inadequate to the task.

He must have done something right.

No, I don't want him back behind the Boston bench.

They may have input but Guerin has final say.

leaders always lead whether appointed captain or not. Team USA is very lucky to have so many who were more than worthy of an A.

The U.S. roster includes four NHL captains (Matthews, Quinn Hughes, Dylan Larkin and Brady Tkachuk) and 10 NHL alternate captains (McAvoy, Matthew Tkachuk, Jack Eichel, Adam Fox, Jack Hughes, Chris Kreider, J.T. Miller, Brock Nelson, Jaccob Slavin and Zach Werenski).

Boston Bruins star Brad Marchand calls All-Star games 'terrible'

Brad Marchand on NHL All-Star games

“All-star games are what they are. Guys aren’t going there to (compete hard). It’s their break … so no one is going to get hurt by trying too hard.

You’re also obligated to be there – and it’s a privilege, too – but some guys are going to be there every year for their entire career, and they’re obligated to, or they’re going to be suspended, so you’re not going to get everyone’s best at All-Star games.

They try to make a show for the fans, and it gets long, and it gets old. You can only be so repetitive before it gets old for the players and fans. … I’m a huge fan of the game, but those All-Star games are terrible to watch.”

My favorite all star game memory is when Bergeron back checked and everyone hated him for it

It's a bit sad how it all turned out for the All-star weekend. 3 of my favorite hockey moments of my youth were All-star related

1) Bourque going 4 for 4 to win the accuracy competition in Philadelphia in 1992.

2) Bourque's late goal to win it for the East in the 1996 game in Boston

2) Nolan's hat trick goal in San Jose on Hasek where he pointed at him then buried it in 1997.

The first two in particular I can remember exactly where I was, who I was with, my reaction to each moment. Bruins didn't exactly have a big pile of memorable positive moments especially once you get to 1993 onward in the 1990s. For fans (especially youth fans) of teams that don't have a whole lot to cheer about it would provide some memorable moments for them growing up if some prestige was brought back to the event weekend instead of this side-show circus it's become.

He can put the puck in the net.He has 17 goals.Look at Bruins roster player by player goal total. Its a joke.Add those goals might be in a playoff spot .Anyways whatever they will be non relevant now a few seasons.
Saying the team is struggling to score this season is ten million light years away from saying we should have kept Ryan f***ing Donato.

Yes. We should have kept him. We should have predicted that six years after we traded him that he would finally put up his first 20 goal season in a year where we knew we’d be offense deprived. The lack of foresight is astounding.

You know, I was planning to slam my head in my car door tonight. But now I don’t have to.
