With how many playoff games and high pressure series has he played in ? Hughes?

Charlie has been an assist captain and Im sure will be leaned on to shut guys down more than Hughes will be.

Maybe Im bias Seems like Charlie is a great choice

He got to Conference finals in 2020. Two series last year.

But I'm not saying McAvoy is a bad choice. He wouldn't of been my first choice. Reality is none of the D-men stand out from a leadership perspective.

Great question there. Charlie seems very well liked by his teammates and deserves an A on the bruins, but cant help to think he'll probably receive some friendly ribbing from his USA teammates on his selection to wear an A for them as Im sure Sullivan had a lot to say about it .

A lot of great Leaders on team USA who wears an A or is their teams Captain.
Bill Guerin is the GM of Team USA. He's the one who decided who got the letters not Sullivan. Mike Sullivan isn't going to treat his son-in-law differently. When they are on the ice, that goes out the window and they are coach and player. They've both said that over the years.

Also, CMac has worn a letter for Team USA in the past as well as at BU. It really shouldn't surprise anyone that he's wearing a letter in this tournament.

Here is an excellent write up about the relationship between Mike Sullivan and CMac.

This 4 Nations roster will likely be the US Olympic roster is Milan-Cortina. Mike Sullivan has been named the head coach.

This is the coaching staff for Team USA in the 4 Nations tournament: Mike Sullivan is the head coach of Team USA, with assistant coaches John Tortorella, John Hynes and David Quinn. Mike Buckley is serving as the U.S. goaltending coach, with Mike King and Madison Nikkel the team's video coaches.

Regardless I'd be shocked if he'd didn't get any ribbing. And why would Guerin be solely responsible of picking your captains. sully behind the bench, one would think he'd have just as much if not more of a say. Not buying it was Guerins choice and his only.

Mike Sullivan was a disaster during his Bruins tenure. And I'll say honestly the reasons his Penguins teams won Cups are Crosby, Malkin & Letang. He's floundering now that Crosby & Malkin are running on fumes and Letang is gone.

I'm with you- new coaching blood is desperately needed in Boston.

Yes, Sullivan was wound tighter than a Swiss watch with the Bruins but those teams were, to put it charitably, not very good.

It's a bit unfair to suggest he had nothing whatever to do with three championships. However loaded, the Penguins still needed a coach, and I've never heard any of them complain Sullivan was inadequate to the task.

He must have done something right.

No, I don't want him back behind the Boston bench.

They may have input but Guerin has final say.
