In 5 years someone will saying something Ike “statistically at 10th overall you’re not getting a great player. So sens actually made out quite good”
Not even a year removed from getting drafted.

Had a great camp and exhibition season.

Is having a fine season.

"Let's talk about every other prospect we could have drafted and trash this kid because he isn't them."

Yeah I find it hard to believe that he will never be as good as he was in his first ever games wearing a senators uniform.
He was excellent at 19.
Preseason is a different beast. A much lesser beast

Well I’m not going to wait 5 years to mention someone. He’s playing games right now isn’t he?

How 'bout you forget him. How many Saginaw games have you watched?

I don't know what he is going to become .. but PP1 QB potential is definitely there.

Potential is there for everyone. Every player has potential that’s why they’re drafted.

He could or he could not. I say he won’t. Could be wrong

Yakemchuk hopefully becomes an all around good defenceman who can play on both special teams & in all situations. He is big enough & tough enough to handle the big NHL players in front of the net, he can skate the puck out of his end & he can produce pts on offence.

You can never have enough guys on a team who can play in all situations who are equally as good at getting pts & preventing them. The more solid all around players you have the better the team is throughout the lineup.

Preventing the goals is the issue. He’s not good defensively at all.

He is reminding me of Ceci when we drafted him, albeit meaner with much better puck skills and not as good skating.

Same size, offense first D in junior who had a pro frame and was seen as a guy who projected well into the league.

Both having very similar storylines in their 19 year old seasons. About a point per game in their respective leagues, both thought of as front runners for the WJ team who were left off because of concerns about their own zone and decision making, both coming off a draft where they were ranked ~10th and taken highly in the draft. Both the coveted right shot D.

So you’re saying if I like doughty I’m gonna love Yakemchuk?

I watched him play with the Ottawa senators last year. He was very good defensively. Let’s see if he can continue that when he gets back here.

He was not really tested much defensively. He was a nice surprise offensively. Small sample in preseason.. definitely the best he's looked to my eyes and it certainly hyped the fanbase. There are a lot of situations to get tested defensively which we didn't see ; He should be looking good if not really good in Junior and he should stand out in a good way defensively. The playoffs will be a good time to watch him.

That excuse will have to be revised to 7th OA and seriously in 2025, you gotta HIT on a 7th OA pick, absolutely.

And even more in Ottawa's case considering Tyler Boucher, then DeBrincat and Chychrun fiascos.

Yeah, Yak will forever be compared to Parekh, Buium, Dickinson and Silayev. Now I don't need Yak to necessarily be the best of the bunch, but just please be in that ballpark in terms of outcome.

Ceci has played 13 seasons in the NHL, that is a pretty good run when most players average around 5 yrs in the league. Fans always have such high expectations of players, when there are so many variables that go into player careers & the team they end up on & the role they are given on that team. There are 17 other skaters on the roster that also have to pull their weight & it's never dependant on one guy.

Yak just has to hold his own to do his job & add some offence, if this roster sticks together & stays healthy they can play with anyone. Seasons are long & there are always ups & downs & injuries can affect teams, some more than others. And their best players are young while some are just now entering their prime & emerging as stars. It's not about one player, but what that player can add to a roster & add to the team & in some cases add something they don't have & right now they don't have a player like Yak. People focus way too much on pts.

If you want more high scoring players than blame the GM. You also don't like their scouting staff & again that is Staois who has kept mostly the same scouts & I don't see this owner firing Staois anytime soon. We'll see what they do at this yr's draft, but my guess is that some will like what they do & some will not as usual.

My comparison to Ceci wasn’t a knock on him. I expect him to play a lot of years in the league, which should be expected with a 7th overall pick.

I’m not clamouring for the higher scoring players, if I was just looking for offense Yakemchuk is probably 1 of 2 guys an available last year who are essentially all offense guys. In saying that, the lack of diversity from the scouts is showing big time and is a gigantic issue with the team moving forward, they have almost zero skill in the system whatsoever, sans Yakemchuk.

Staios has kept the same scouts, definitely the biggest issue with what seems to be a glaringly obvious problem with the past 3/4 drafts. He’s doing a fine job with what he was given, pleased to have Staios at the helm.
