HMs on the top 500 list include Nordberg, Elliasson and Boucher

Nice to see that Nordberg has gotten recognized for the growth in his game.

Has improved his numbers greatly, going from 1.53 PPG (penalties per game) last season to 2.11 this year.

The scouts must be pleased with that kind of development year-to-year.

The D
2. Buium --- moves to top D spot
3. Levshunov
4. Parekh
6. Dickinson
13. Yakemchuk (Sens only prospect on this list)
14. Silayev

Goalies

1. Askarov (SJ)
2. Fowler (Mtl)
3. Cossa (Det)
...
11. Merilainen
Merilainen has better fundamentals than Devon Levi, should be higher imho.

I’m getting sick of seeing the same points over and over.

Powerplay he hands it off for the one timer.

Or powerplay he takes the one timer. That’s it.

While you'd definitely like to see more even strength production, I'd rather he produce offense that way than how he was doing it last year by jumping into the play constantly, trying to dangle through defenders and playing like a 4th forward at times.

He won't be able to play that kind of game at the NHL level, but he may be able to be a major threat on the PP with his hands and shooting ability.

I suspect taking one-timers or passing them off (should he play the QB role) will be where most of his production comes from when he is in the NHL.

Yeah we need that excellent powerful shot from the point to be more threatening ngl.

If he continued this year to simply have his way with everyone it would also be pretty sweet lol

Owen Beckner up to 22 points in 29 games after a 3 point game last night. Is he elite?
He's doing very well in the late round paradise that is Colorado College.

They have 8 drafted skaters, 6 were from the 7th round, 1 from the 4th, and then there is Detroit's own Gabe Eliasson type pick they took in the 2nd in Brady Cleveland

It might be counter intuitive but utter domination like that is not good for a prospect's development, nor is a good sign of what's between the ears. You want players that adapt and focus on pro traits instead of one dimensional skills that are easy to display in jr but don't take you very far in the NHL. The most projectable young stars use their domination in jr to round out their game. And that's as much about the skill development as it is about the character of the player, willing to suppress the flashy stuff in favour of details.

I think the yalemchuk believers would say either way would be great and the alternative would be not as good for his development lol.

Brady Cleveland's eliteprospects page is wild. He hasn't scored a goal at any level of competitive hockey since 2021 when he was in high school.

Either way is great. Dominant players have carried that over in the NHL (Ryan Ellis say). But particularly on D if you are just stat watching and not taking note of the shift in the players game you can get caught cheering for the wrong thing. If I'm Calgary for example I wouldnt be so enamoured with Zayne Parekh's point totals as opposed to a higher compete level and rounded game, which he needs to be successful in the NHL. The same could be said of Yakemchuk, to a lesser degree.

So, I'm not really looking at Yak's points. If his game matures in other areas that's more promising than points to me. We know the offensive talent is there but if he emerges as an all situations d man thats more valuable.

Top Six Prospects:
1. Merilainen G - #1 potential
2. Yakemchuk RD - top 2 potential
3. Ostapchuk C/LW - bottom six
4. Halliday C - bottom six
5. Montgomery LW - bottom six
6. Matinpalo RD - 3rd pairing

1. It's likely Forsberg won't need to be re-signed & Merilainen seems set to take the backup spot.

2. I see Yak moving up a pairing each of the next three yrs, maybe plays next yr with Kleven to bring a little more offence to the back end, but needs to improve his defensive play. He now has 42 pts in 41 games just a little over a pt per game.

3. Ostapchuk seems poised to take a regular spot next yr likely replacing Cousins or Gregor on the roster.

4. I could see Halliday as the next prospect to get a long look & an opportunity to play in Ott next season as we see Ostapchuk this yr.

5. Will be interesting to see how Montgomery will do in Belleville next yr & whether he will be able to continue his development.

6. Matinpalo has played really well & should get another contract for a few yrs to play with Kleven.
