Canes just stepped up into contender status, sucks for Avs, but this just makes me appreciate more what we've been able to do with our core. Rantanen asking for Drai level money, and I get all the stats and whatnot, but that's a tough way to build a consistent contender. Meanwhile we sign Reino for $8.6M AAV, I know not the same as Rantanen level, but I'd rather have Reino and $5M extra cap space than one Rantanen.

I would like to see a full comparison of Reino and Rantanen, and wouldn’t be surprised to see Reino ahead overall. Plus that $5-6M, Ekblad money.

Another way to look at the money is, would you rather sign Benny and Ek (and maybe have a bottom pair/fourth liner money left) or one of Rantanen. I know what I’d do and that wouldn’t be Rantanen.

The TDL just became (more of) a seller's market. More buyers without retention for players beyond this season with newfound cap space. Trades for term will be more prevalent since those players will be less expensive in the long run.
