As long as his contract is on the books with the Avalanche, and he doesn't come out and say "I'm done", it will remain a talking point because it has huge implications on the roster.Landy has been done for ages. A lot of talk about nothing.
Sure, but the writing has been on the wall for long to see and still many pencil Landy in the future lineups. As long as his contract is on the books with the Avalanche, and he doesn't come out and say "I'm done", it will remain a talking point because it has huge implications on the roster.

It's time for Landeskog to suck it up and call it quits. Enough is enough.
Happy about dragging on the inevitable? That may be your opinion, but it's clearly not happening.
I'm happy about that.

The man is not going to make a comeback. Not after 3 or 4 years.
It's one player. At some point you gotta accept what's going on, respect the organization and the fans and move on.Landeskog can do whatever makes him happy.
Easy for you to say. I bet the people who know him don't mind one bit. It's one player. At some point you gotta accept what's going on, respect the organization and the fans and move on.
This has only created uncertainty for management making roster building more difficult, questions in the locker room, no official captain for the Avs for years, uncertainty among fans etc.
For such a leader one would think he would do the right thing here sooner.

Exactly, find a single player on this team, a single coach or upper management person who thinks he's being selfish or not being a leader.Easy for you to say. I bet the people who know him don't mind one bit.
Are the Avs gonna trade him this trade deadline? He's going to come back and play in the playoffs. He might not play every game and he might not be pain-free but he'll be back.
He'll be the first player in NHL history to go from Stanley Cup to Stanley Cup with 3 years in between.
Then he's going to call it for good (although staying on LTIR) like Weber and Price did.
I've felt like this was going to be 'the way' for the past 2 years. It's going to happen.
Something has gone wrong. Lonzo Ball experiences no pain playing pro basketball while Landy does 23 months later trying to play hockey. He's going to come back and play in the playoffs. He might not play every game and he might not be pain-free but he'll be back.

One. Gabe Landeskog owns a contract with the Colorado Avalanche. There is simply nothing the Avalanche could do even if they were so inclined, which would make them not only completely wrong but also the biggest asshole club ever. Bailing on your all-star, stanely cup champion captain is just not ever going to set well with a very large portion of the population here and for good reasons. It's one player. At some point you gotta accept what's going on, respect the organization and the fans and move on.

I should hope not.Are the Avs gonna trade him this trade deadline?
I think this is what happens. He's going to want to go out on his own terms. He porbably won't be any worse than the group of 4th liners we already have. And it doesn't hurt the team. He's going to come back and play in the playoffs. He might not play every game and he might not be pain-free but he'll be back.

Two players, with different bodies, playing different sports, it's just not a big sample size to say that something went wrong.Something has gone wrong. Lonzo Ball experiences no pain playing pro basketball while Landy does 23 months later trying to play hockey.
Something in Landy's rehab is not working, nor does it look like it's going to work.
Of course, but it was the same surgery done by the same doctor and there is precedent for NHLers not coming back from this.I think this is what happens. He's going to want to go out on his own terms. The fact that he still experiences pain skating is a very bad sign for any comeback.
I'm not sure I actually believe anything anymore, other than this. It's Gabe's decision and always will be.View attachment 987285
I still maintain, playoffs have been the goal this entire time. He’s going to play.
I would also like to play in this year's playoffs. It doesn't mean much does it.View attachment 987285

That’s what I was wondering after I read the LTIR stuff. If Landy has a bunch of years left I guess the Avs could offer him a front office job with x number of years guaranteed (or just pay him the whole lump sum right now) and have him retire. I don’t think the Avs would ever force him to do that though like the Panthers did. I keep thinking through it though and even then - it doesn’t make a hell of a lot of sense for either party to actually do that? LTIR is probably the way to go and do it very long term. I honestly don’t see Lando ever playing again. I think at this point it’s just waiting things out until the contract/term isn’t so gigantic and then managing it when the salary remainder due isn’t some huge albatross number.Luongo is the only one to do it, and he gave up like 3.5M to do it. But he was also immediately hired by the Panthers organization after that. And Luongo later stated, it was not his choice. He would've prefered LTIR, but the Panthers couldn't do it and no team was interested at that time. So Tallon basically said "retire, if you want this job".
It would make absolutely no difference to the team, but if they force Landy to retire, I'll just go back to being a fan of the league like I was for the first 3 or 4 years I got into hockey. That’s what I was wondering after I read the LTIR stuff.
