Kind of surprised a lot of people feel Landy is done.

If Gabe felt great and wanted to play tomorrow night that would completely f*** us in regards to the cap and what we can do between now and Friday. Not only that but we'd probably have to put a few guys on waivers in order to make it happen.

C-Mac knows this. Bednar knows this. And even Landeskog knows this. So when Bednar gives a 'no update to gives maybe hints of a set-back, don't take it for 100% truth' - they know how this goes.

When teams like the panthers are LTIRing players like Tkachuk for the rest of the regular season and everyone knows he'll be back for Game #1 - the Avs have no choice but to play the same game but they also have to say the right things.

I've always felt that Landeskog was going to come back for a playoff run and just play through it - no matter what. Maybe he'll actually (internally) call it a career afterwards but I believe he's playing again and since we have that salary cap situation - I'm not going to believe anything management says in the media because it's done to satisfy those obligations.

Agreed on this. We saw him just a few weeks ago skating with the team. There’s no reason to rush him back this season, and if he’s good to play in the playoffs, then the cap doesn’t apply anyway.

I still think we see landy, albeit in a diminished roll this postseason. LTIR games are underway league wide.

Something that I haven't seen talked about much, but I think might be real, is it may not just be about the ability to come back. Like, if he knows that he's only going to be capable of playing 8-10 minutes on the 4th line, and maybe not even good 8-10 minutes, is he going to be ok spending the next 4 years doing so?

This. Bednar and CMac have to be cagey on the public Landeskog updates because of LTIR. Gotta play the LTIR game - and that means Landeskog is injured . . . until he's not. And to maximize LTIR, that most likely means he'll be injured until the playoffs.

The good thing is that his injury has been well-publicized and there is zero question - none - as to its severity and rehab timeline. Nobody is going to look at Landy the same way they look at, say, Mark Stone.

The downside is that the only person who knows if he'll be able to play in April is GL. Can Landy really run out of a phone booth, throw on an Avs jersey and play playoff hockey after 3 years off?

We'll see. The key is to make sure it doesn't cost anything to find out. Which means CMac and Bednar have to waffle when asked about it.

Yeah and they're not going to trod him out practicing for two months either. You've got to play the game.

We'll know more if we get closer to April and he's around more and more. Until then it's the iron curtain.

I appreciate the optimism but how many times has this can already been kicked down the road? Landy said it’s “when, not if” over the summer. Bednar said they expected him back early in the season. We already know he had a setback where he had to take time off the ice.

The same thing happened last year. Coming out for a twirl at morning skate is not the same as skating with the team and he hasn’t even done that in weeks. It’s March. The games are about to get even more intense. Throwing him into a playoff game is crazy risky.

You don't throw a guy who has missed 3 years of play into game 1 of the playoffs. If Landeskog can't return this regular season, he is never coming back.

I'll be optimistic until he stops trying to come back. He's the captain of our Cup winning team.

Being optimistic, and supportive doesn't mean being blind to the possibile outcomes.

Same with Nuke..

I'm not someone who is broken by hoping for something and not having it go my way though. Dissapointment is a normal part of life.

They're going to..

Correction, they're going to when he says he's ready be it game one or game seven.

Just my opinion. Landy is gonna come back like Foppa, look decent and put up a couple points, but ultimately not be able to go for more than a few games at a time.

If I had to make a prediction, that would be it. Lanzo did eventually get beyond the swelling issue though.

Who knows if Landy can too.

Landy can't come back before the playoffs unless we weaken the team somewhere else. What if they did that to make room for him and after just a few games he has to call it quits...what then? The team is then weaker than it is now. It would be disastrous as far as being a contender let alone what it would do to the morale of the team. They have no longer the choice but to wait for the playoffs to try him out. You try him in the first few games of the playoffs and if it doesn't work you still have the other guys to use. It would be a shock to the team to lose him but much less than if CMac doesn't get help and even have to make room for him by the TDL and after the TDL they find out he can't be available for the playoffs. Make the team as strong as you can without Landy in case it goes bad for him in the playoffs. At least they will still be able to contend.

Landeskog will come back like Forsberg and draw all the attention. I remember Forsberg getting mauled by Wild players while having one foot healthy. Burns comes to mind.

At this point the reporters should just follow Landy every day and see what he has for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This way they’ll have something to report
