Speculation: 2024-2025 General Discussion III

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The team has been playing so well lately that I do wonder if Geekie is available, if he wasn't already.

Just saying because the team hasn't skipped a beat and one could argue they are better without him in the lineup.

I get that he's still young and learning but he always looked like he was a half step behind out there.

i wouldnt hesistate to move him in the right deal. he has a ton of value and easily could get us a established top 6 winger

Agreed, Personally I think our gem in the rough is Gonzo, he's giving me the same vibes Kuch gave me when he came up.

Now I'm not saying he's going to be just as good or anything, its just that you can see his talent out there every now and then and its becoming more and more prevalent the longer of a leash Coop gives him.

Of course he's available, and Howard, and anything and everyone not a key piece of the roster.

i would put Howard in the "Untouchable unless massive overpay" category. JBB spoke very highly of him and i expect him to be on the 3rd line come April

"Untouchable" gets thrown around way too often. With rare exceptions no prospect is untouchable, if what's coming back is another extremely high value piece.

McDonagh looked cooked when traded for him in 2018 too, Jones is in the same situation. He can't handle carrying an entire defence on top of a bad a team overall but if you slot him in a team where he has support he's going to have a resurgence. And if Jones were playing anywhere near his peak level this wouldn't even be a discussion, not going to say no to a guy I can see playing very well next to Hedman if the cost is reasonable, he's only 30, read up what people were saying about McDonagh when he was on the block at the same age.

Yeah, even if he doesn't have a resurgence, he's still a top 4 defenseman. Chicago eating 25% of his salary, so ~7m until 2030, makes this a no-brainer in terms of cap value."

I wanna say we could use this as a barometer for the trade market since Jones is the first big name dealt with just futures involved, but Knight is such an enigma and all of that retention for Jones makes it hard to gauge. If I'm Florida though, I'm real happy with this outcome.

Yeah. Jones has played on some jokes teams throughout his career but is still a good defenseman. Especially at 7M. Thats a great move by Florida and will probably be one of the best moves all TDL. They got better. For context, a defending cup team ahead of us - improved. There's reason to view that and say okay, we need to respond. Much like teams did to us in 2022, we need a response to that.

Jones also fits their style of play pretty well as he's a great puck mover. Cant just say oh he's overrated or not great when we are looking at guys like Palmieri to push Zemgus f***ing Girgensons down the depth chart.
