if only McDavid would run around and hit people he would be good
I’m not really comfortable sending any huge piece unless I’m certain that we could sign him for a reasonable price long termWhat is the price everyone would be comfortable paying for Dobson? Whats the biggest piece people are willing to send out?
I agree. I don’t see us retaining, unless it’s something less than the normal 50% or a 3rd team is involved. For example, if we maintained approximately 25%, then his cap hit to the Leafs would be $5.0m. Then, you take back a contract or two.
Something like Schenn (25% along with maybe more if 3rd team involved), & Dean for Minten, 2026 1st, and Max Domi to balance the money.
That’s only an example, but it’s how something would have to be structured for a cap strapped team like the Leafs and the return is palatable for a team in win now mode.
So you’re saying instead of having a team identity we should just find another McDavid? Got itif only McDavid would run around and hit people he would be good
Put it on a t-shirt: more d**ks, less p**sies!
I agree with the sentiment of your post. It's not always easy to acquire those types of players but it should be the goal at least. We shouldn't underestimate having a guy like O'Reilly on the team, both on and off the ice. He seems like the kind of guy who not only leads by example but will push guys off the ice to become better pros.
I'm not sure Schenn has that kind of personality, but I also don't think Thomas, Kyrou or Parayko have it either. You need guys that HATE to lose and can infect teammates with that same drive. Neighbours and Holloway may have that personality type but they aren't really experienced enough to be a team leader yet. If everyone played with the same edge that Walker does, I wonder what our record would be.
It sounds like you have an invested some time into researching the market. Is there a player or players that might be interested in short term deal to prove they are worth more?We are currently in a pattern of waiting for contracts to run off the books/kids to develop.
I’m not sure a 3C fills the issue we would have going in to next season. I’m worried with the cap increase the UFA market is going to look very silly-esp at center given how many teams have a real need at center in the middle 6.
I also don’t think we are an attractive option for someone to sign with right now that would fit the bill.
I think we’re going to have to offer too much term and too much money to stop gap the hole that we’d open up.
no, I am saying I would rather have a Zach Benson than ToropchenkoSo you’re saying instead of having a team identity we should just find another McDavid? Got it
We all have our opinions, but I think the Hayes trade was reactionary from Army, after the rumored Krug for Sanheim deal fell through. I don't remember the full details, but the primary pieces were Krug for Sanheim and I think the Blues would also take Hayes off their hands with some retention. When that all fell through, we still went through with Hayes. He scored his 30 points for us, just like he did 2 of his 4 seasons with Philly, but we only had to pay him half his salary, and it only cost a 6th rounder. He would have still been more solid this season than Sunny from a production standpoint. The problem came in when we had to waste a 2nd rounder to get PIT to take him, which hurt. In hindsight, it wasn't a terrible trade as a stopgap like you mentioned. The horrible part was the paying to send him away, for no reason. He could have played there his year without "blocking" any prospects. It sounds like you have an invested some time into researching the market. Is there a player or players that might be interested in short term deal to prove they are worth more?
Also, this is a time where not trading for Hayes then trading him would have been beneficial. We either would have more assets to find a plug in player or we would have Hayes to fill a gap. I realize he wasn’t ideal, but we have so few forwards developing at a stage where I would be worried about ruining their development. Then again I never would have went after him in the first place. We rushed into trying to be competitive. We needed more assets to reload and build, but here we are.
I want absolutely nothing to do with Explodey shoulder. And I am not trading Thomas. What would you guys say to:
Tkachuk+Norris for Thomas+Kyrou
How good is Kyrou defensively?
There's nothing wrong with our pair, in fact Norris could have a Hischier and higher arc but just change of scenery as we are moving towards puck-possession and defensive hockey under Green.
@ReginKarlssonLehner Going further into that deal. While I would love to have Tkachuk on the team, I would prefer not to include Kyrou, and even if It was a Kyrou for Tkachuk Deal I can't bring myself to want to add what it would take to Kyrou to get him for the production difference between the two players.
Other posters would probably jump at a Kyrou++ for Brady, but for me personally I just can't find the justification to add a 1st+ to Kyrou for similar/slightly increased production.
