Concern is development of the players currently on the roster. I guess to a degree you’re right. But you’re also now shopping in a UFA bucket that’s not very large with a known large cap increase.
I suppose Bolduc is the only one that falls into that category, and I don't see how moving Schenn with no replacement really changes much for him the rest of the season. Now, it's possible that Dvorsky gets called up after the trade deadline like Bolduc was last season, but he'd probably be getting Schenn minutes with quality wingers, so as long as he's actually ready, I don't see much of an issue there either.

I'd take less than a 1st, but I do think that's a reason why he won't be moved. I think Army is saying he's available in the sense that if a team pays a price that they shouldn't, we'll trade him. Same as last deadline with Buchnevich.

Completely agree, which is why "mammoth" has to be more than just one first. Neighbours did an interview with Friedman and Bukauskas around the Winter Classic that was very insightful. I recommend everyone listen to it. Goes into just how great Schenn is for our locker room.

Edit for link. Starts around the 10 minute mark.

Yeah even though performance wise Im not sure his value is super high, I believe he’s an overall positive influence off the ice. I don’t think I’d accept two half assed, late firsts for him. Especially not in a weak draft.

Anyone else getting the Gut feeling Blues are going to take a run at Marner in the off season with the cap jumping?
I bet we throw out significant offers for him and Rantanen or any other high-end player, no idea if they get close to their ask or if they are even interested. For the same reason that we'd do it, a lot of other teams will with the rising cap.

I just don’t see UFA wanting to come here during a rebuild. Hopefully things change in 2-3 years.

Really depends on how Army Pitches it. Adding a 90+point player to Thomas, Kyrou, Buch, and Holloway would help offense greatly. Marner is also decent defensively and would most likely be put with Thomas and Buchnevich then it would let Kyrou and Holloway tear up on the 2nd line. Tho we would need to move out some other high cost players like Faulk. I don't think it will happen, but it's a possibility to accelerate the retool

Marner is exceptional defensively. He's received Selke votes in the last 6 seasons, finishing as high as 3rd. I'm not sure if we could get him, but he's an incredible player on both sides of the ice. The only issue is that winger is clearly our prospect pool's biggest strength, as well as our current NHL roster's biggest strength. Adding Marner looks like a luxury when we clearly need a top 6 C and a top 4 RHD to take the next steps forward.

I'd expect if we did get him we'd be looking at trading a couple prospects or one of Kyrou/Neighbours/Bolduc to fill the RHD/2C. Looking at Clarke or Nemec maybe even Dobson as examples

If we had Marner, id be more willing to make a blockbuster move for a top 4 RD

Hah.....I was practically ridiculed here a couple of weeks ago, over my question if we could possibly trade Schenn for anything

Could and will are two very different things. Anything is possible I guess but this rumor seems to be nothing more than Dreger speculating.

If they don’t tax our property, they have to get that revenue somewhere else. Doesn’t that revenue pay for schools, police, fireman, local govt, roads, etc?

Personal property tax is a scam. It literally keeps the citizens from owning property 100%.

I don’t ever want to hear that government agencies need more money. Here’s how every agency works. They get an approved budget. They make sure to spend every penny of that budget so the next year they get to claim they need more money.

Schools need taxes? Really? Maybe I’m the only one that remembers before casinos operated in Missouri. Oh if they can only get casinos in the state, it will forever solve the tax issues for schools. Okay lol

If we can only pass the law allowing online betting… the schools will be saved lol

The founders of the country would have went to war over personal property tax… but here we are

Until more credible sources say something, I'm not fully believing it, but Kyrou/Dobson does make sense, although, I would want to talk extension with Dobson first to see what he wants. Acquiring Dobson would more or less wrap up our defensive rebuild. Broberg and Dobson provide the young NHL future, Fowler and Parayko provide the vets, and our recent picks can fill in the gaps as they are needed.

This isn't me wanting to dump Kyrou, just think replacing what he brings will be slightly easier to replace than finding another Dobson.

Kind of had a post a day or so about this. With news of significant cap increases in the next few years, contracts like Schenn's no longer have as much negative value. The % of cap will decrease significantly, where during the stagnant cap days, it really didn't change that much.

I think the interesting part is how this impacts upcoming free agents, I think we could see some sign for quite a bit more than they would have the past couple seasons, and that will make comparable vets signed for 2-4 years much more attractive.
Just to put some numbers to this concept, $6.5M will be 6.8% of the cap in 2025/26, 6.25% in 2026/27 and 5.7% in 2027/28 based on the numbers released by the NHL and PA. Currently, 5.7% of the cap is $5M and 6.25% of the cap is $5.5M. If you think that he can contribute to your team as a legit upgrade this year and next, those last couple years aren't looking as hard to swallow as they were a couple years ago. Also worth noting that his actual salary in the last couple years is $4.3M and $4M.

The Schenn rumors are interesting to me. I don't have a gut reaction about how serious we might be listening or how accurate this report might be. Is this a message to the room (or Schenn specifically)? Is Army testing the waters to see how other GMs are changing their valuation of future cap space? I really can't decide what to make of this report beyond the face value 'of course the Blues are at least listening to offers.'
