2024-2025 Blues Trade Proposals Thread.

As I'm the only one complaining about it, this must be directed at me. I started watching hockey almost exactly 30 years ago. I liked it then. I like it better now. I'll give you a tip. Its not 1995, its 2025. It isn't 30 years ago.

Things change and a lot of things get better. If I see a boss slap his employee's ass, should I say, well that was the norm in 1950 so...No, it is wrong. Was wrong then and is more wrong now.

Hockey is better now because there are more skilled players. The skilled players are pushing out the goons and cheap players. That makes a better game. And even though Marchand is skilled, he tries to injure other skilled players and do cheap and cheating things to get them off their game. I don't like teams winning because they hurt the other team's best player or cheated. It's not that I don't like violence. I fought MMA for years and still watch it. But even MMA has rules, and the best fights occur withing those rules. I have no respect in that sport or any sport, for someone who doesn't try to win by being the best, but by making their opponent worse through cheap shots and injuries.

To be fair I thought @PocketNines was being sarcastic earlier about missing out on Marchand  now I just feel like a dick for now seemingly singling you out. I do like how skilled the league is now, but I just wish there were more Brandon Shanahan types who were extremely skilled, but also didn’t take any shit from anyone.

Don't feel bad. You are a good poster. I did not take offense, i just literally didn't see anyone else supporting me. I may have missed posts as well, as that user and others doesn't show up unless I click a specific button to see those posts.

Openly preens about reading me sometimes yet he's still unreliable narrator enough to blast me for supposedly having never talked about Stancl before the WJC even though I did frequently ... clownish

for someone who has me on ignore it's amazing how many times he manages to bring me up or call me out about what I'm saying or not saying ... what an incredible contribution

I have absolutely zero desire to go after Marchand and that opinion has nothing to do with his antics and general 'rat' behavior.

He's 36 years old (37 in May), on an expiring deal, and is well removed from the 80+ point player he was in his prime. He had 67 points in each of the last 2 years (75 point pace in 2022/23) and is on pace for 61 points this year. Barring a jump, this will be his 4th consecutive season with a decline to his points pace. We should not be spending valuable assets for a playoff push rental and extending him would make me very nervous since he highly likely to be worse next year than he is this year.

I think Necas was a much bigger piece to Colorado than we view him publicly. He’s expressed desire to play center, they desperately need a center. He’s 12th in the league in scoring right now, although it’s bolstered by an absolutely scorching start. He’s young and his cap hit is much more manageable.

I don’t like the approach for Colorado because it seems pretty similar to Middlestat of trading the better player for a guy who’s finally found his footing somewhere and has a real chance to backfire upon extension. But worst case scenario is still a scoring middle 6 player.
Outside of injuries, I think that is too low of a worst case scenario for Necas. He has been a top line player for a good chunk of his last 2.5 years in Carolina and when he wasn't a top line player he was still very much a top 6 player.

Last year he was 4th in goals and tied for 3rd in points on a damn good Carolina team. 3rd in both even strength goals and points. He averaged the 2nd most even strength minutes on the team and was on the 2nd PP unit. That was his 'down' year out of the last 3 seasons and he was still very much a top 6 forward. The year before, he led the team in points and was 2nd in goals. And this year he was leading Carolina in points and 3rd in goals.

Necas has his flaws, but he's a pretty clear top 6 player in the NHL.

Conditional 5th for Perunovich to the NYI, adios
I'm curious about the condition on the pick, but I'm sure it won't impact my thoughts on the move.

His time to make an impact here had passed. He's been the odd man out through 3 coaches on a blueline that has never been 'too good to crack.' I'd love to see an alternate timeline where the shoulder injuries didn't completely derail him (and IMO ruin his ability to shoot the puck at a consistent NHL velocity), but that simply isn't the reality we live in.

He clearly wasn't in Monty's plans for the blue line, so I'm content getting a low-value pick to give him a chance to earn a spot somewhere else.

Buckle up.

We just got a roster/contract slot.

No deadline today to force any action + sending away a contract without getting one back for basically nothing = there is more

Nevermind. There is a deadline to force action probably:

Leddy is probably back, forcing out scottyP due to cap.

Fowler Leddy Broberg/Suter is legit defensive depth…that part is nice.

We have 13 games till the trade deadline, 9 are playoff teams, an additional 2 against bubble teams, Vancouver and Utah, Seattle could be considered a bubble team, and then Chicago. It's a brutal stretch, and Army might have already made up his mind on if this is a buy/sell/hold year, but I think the next 6 games before 4 nations break will decide everything.

I’m not very optimistic. We’ll be extremely lucky to finish above .500 this year with this tough remaining schedule.

If the Blues go (miraculously for their talent level) .625 the rest of the way,

they will still need Calgary to drop from .573 to .500 to open the door wide

Yeah, I'd say the door closes relatively soon, then it's up to Army to see if we are more of a hold or sell. And if we are a sell, what can we even sell. Faksa might get something, not sure how in demand he'll be and what the price would be, but I'm sure we'd take whatever. Suter has definitely bumped his value up and would have contenders interested in him. For those with 1.5 seasons left, I'm not sure how many of them have much if any value or even have positive value. If some of them were rentals, I could see returns for guys like Saad or Joseph or Sundqvist, but if I was a playoff team, I wouldn't trade for them with their extra year attached.

Maybe we can get a 2nd and a 4th and get closer to a full draft of picks.

One positive about the schedule after the 4 Nations tournament is that we start off against Winnipeg and I'd expect them to give Helly the night off if he plays 3 or 4 games in the 4 Nations Tournament. Then we play Colorado the next night, who is also in the 2nd half of a B2B. I think we've got a decent chance of facing Comrie/Wedgewood instead of Helly/Blackwood.

Teams/games are always unpredictable coming out of a 2 week break and I'd rather be in those games against backups than starters.

All that said, none of that matters unless they have a great final 6 games before the break.

We have a better chance of me playing a NHL game than we have of the Jets not starting Helly. Lol

I think this next 6 games is going to decide what the team does at the deadline. If we can get 8 points out of a possible 12, they'll have my attention.

We have to beat Vancouver, Utah, and Chicago. Colorado is looking beatable right now too. Oilers and Panthers will be very tough so I'm hoping we steal a point in those games.

Anything less than 8 points and I say pack it in for the season. I have my doubts because this team can't put together a consistent effort for three straight games, but maybe they'll surprise. Time to win some games or wave goodbye to some of your friends.

I would agree, I think I generally throw middle 6 around too often. There's a large difference between a good 2nd line scorer and a 3rd line scorer. That's hypothetically the difference between Kyrou and Saad.

Assuming they want to keep riding Helly, he is set up to play each of their remaining 5 games before the tourney. Comrie played last night and their remaining schedule is Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday/Tuesday/Friday. Then he reports for practices and should play 3 or 4 games in 8 days. I think that giving him the night off immediately following the tournament makes sense as the next game off for him.

Now, that changes if USA doesn't make the championship. If his last 4 Nations game is Monday 2/17 then he will for sure be in net on 2/22.

I think this game is a big deciding fork in the road as to where this team is headed. Sellers at the deadline, just don't see how Army stands pat. Saad gone is a given.

Are 89 and/or 72 movable? Buch looks like hes mailing it in out there since he got a bag. Faulk has been by far their worst dman for a while now. Outside of that not even sure what we can do. I'm not a Kyrou hater and he's definitely staying anyways. Half our forwards are replacement level guys who really don't have value. No really sure what Doug does here but I will be watching keenly

I agree. Tonight's game was a must-win. The next 3 really, plus the Blackhawks game soon after. If I'm Army, I've seen enough over the last three games to tell me that this team doesn't have what it takes.

Love the kid, but the time might be right to cash in our chips on Neighbors. We have plenty of middle 6 wingers coming through the system over the next couple years. I think If we could pivot Neighbors into more of a need, like a top D prospect and possibly more picks, im here for it. This team desperately needs more high end talent.

Neighbors & Faksa
For
Nemec & 2nd

I like Neighbors too but he's not returning Nemec and a 1st round pick :)

New Jersey's GM would be fired on the spot. Add Jiricek and that might get their attention. We're not getting their 1st in that deal though.

Was a little steep i agree, changed it to a 2nd. But it doesnt have to be that specific deal that i want done, was just an example, just want to target an elite D prospect of some kind.

I think it would be more like Neighbours + Bolduc for Nemec. Like it or not Nemec's draft position and success last season is going to hold a lot of value. No need to add a 1st on either side.
