Army traded a 4th FOR Texier…I’d like to see him offer our 5th and 6th in ‘25 to get rid of him. A less painful version of the Hayes fiasco…plus it would be kind of cool to see if we can trade all of our picks before the start of the ‘25 draft. They’re down to 1, 5 & 6.
This last two must go.
I'm hoping we can recoup at least a 3rd with Saad. Hopefully, a 2nd.

For a 3rd, 6th and struggling young defender. Yikes, Drury.
It's not a great return, but Borgen isn't a struggling young defender. He is a decent vet who is a couple years older than Kakko. He basically replaces Trouba on right side for Rangers. And he is pending UFA who likely would have returned 3rd or 4th if dealt at deadline.

Never been particularly impressed with Kaako but he is serviceable as 3rd line, complimentary winger. Trading him at the nadir of his trade value was probably frustrating for Rangers fans. Talk about a dysfunctional and unprofessional organization at the moment.

Roster freeze is underway for the next 8 days. Any dreams of moving out more dead weight won’t come to fruition until Dec. 28th at the earliest.
I thought the freeze started at midnight tonight?

Edit: Freeze isn't until 11:59PM tonight.

For all Players on an NHL Active Roster, Injured Reserve, or Players with Non-Roster and Injured Non-Roster status as of 11:59 p.m. local time on December 19, a roster freeze shall apply through 12:01 a.m. local time December 28

Tyler Johnson anyone?

Just waived by Boston. Center experience
Not remotely interested. Bruins are pretty desperate for C help. If they didn't see a reason for him to stick around, I doubt he'll be of much help to the Blues.

I think this is a problem that ultimately gets solved internally once they deem Dvorsky ready, barring an unforeseen trade.

The roster freeze is over. The next deadline is March 7. Tdl.

Friedman popped onto the Toronto broadcast last night and brought up Saad, indicating it may be a thing that he moves shortly. Hope army can get a positive return. Saad isn’t trash and has a small cap hit. Be nice to get something of value back. Imma guess a 3rd (or B- prospect) if the deal is clean and no retention, but I selfishly biasedly think he could run all the way up to a first if he packaged somebody like Toropchenko with Saad, retained on Saad and took a small cap dump back. A contender getting Saad and somebody like toropchenno on the books for 2 years (with Toropchenko being an rfa at the end) for less than 3.5 mil combined seems valuable. How could a contender who perhaps has cap challenges spend a 1st and get more bang for their buck?

I really like Toropchenko but we have lots of wingers and it’s eventually going to be a thing that we trade a winger because we have a whole lot of winger prospects - the sooner the better then - as the league understands we have to move a winger the amount they’ll pay for one or the pickiness they’ll have will not trend in our favor. Other teams have payroll on standby ready to throw an anchor to a peer in the water.

He also mentioned Buffalo and Detroit were scouting each other which is kind of a fun non-Blues puzzle. Not sure I’ve found the deal there yet.

If I had to guess Detroit Buffalo I’d guess Detroit wants McLeod and Buffalo wants … that’s where I can’t figure it out. Veleno/berggren? Idk. Doesn’t seem like Detroit can afford the more expensive Buffalo stuff unless Larkin/Seider/young d prospects move. Cozens for Larkin would be weird. Larkin moving at all would be weird. I guess it could be a Patrick Kane deal but given how he’s been playing I’m not sure you want to do that - although maybe Buffalo wants a vet for the room)

Have you looked at the rumored UFAs that will be moved at the deadline. Saad may actually be the best available. (Contenders and playoff teams will not be moving their forward….). So I do think he will actually have more value. Jordan Greenway and maybe Granland, but…..

I think it is very possible we get a couple of 2nds.

Except Saad still has a year left after this one - that will likely limit the potential suitors.

I admire your optimism but do not share it. We'll be lucky to get one 2nd unless he really starts playing better. Other rumored names are Taylor Hall, Brock Nelson, Yanni Gourde, Frederic, Armia, among others.

Are any of those guys lighting the world on fire? Saad has been off this year, but he has been the picture of consistency his entire career. Which of those guys would you take as a contender over him?

Depends on team needs but certainly Nelson, Gourde, and Frederic. Hall if I needed one-dimensional scoring. I don't know much about Armia but it's probably a wash with Saad.

Hall isn’t a 1 dimensional forward, because that would require him scoring. Look at his stats. Gourde has score 20 goals exactly 1 time in his career.

I get the disappointment in Saad this year. But the only player that is better than Sasd is Nelson.

If Saad starts to play up to his career levels, sure. But you can't give Saad credit for past results while only giving Hall credit for his recent numbers, which are still far better than Saad's this season. I'd rather have Gourde for a playoff run over current Saad as well and him and Frederic are a toss up.

I guess we will see who returns what. But I bet the Saad returns more than anyone outside of Nelson on that list.

Buch currently has a 12 team no trade clause. It’s never going to happen, but I wish Army would get the list of teams, and see what the options are. Is the franchise better off with Buch over the next 6+ years, or the recovered assets from the return?
