I agree, between the cap increasing significantly and Saad terminating his contract, we have plenty of cap flexibility to handle a Krug return. And if Krug does return, I think you are also right, we'll move Leddy, I think it's plausible we even move Leddy at this trade deadline.

My surprise when I saw that is kind of similar to Leddy's injury and return. It's a combo of NHL doesn't really compel teams to divulge much on injuries like say the NFL, and then our media doesn't really push as hard as some other markets might.
if Krug is good enough to return he would finally fit into the d-core properly as a 3rd pair offensive specialist, his skill set is something the team is clearly missing

If, if he's healthy, he might be able to provide some value as the PP QB and have heavily sheltered assignments. The version we get back might not be healthy or back to full strength, who knows what type of player he'll be when he returns. And kind of like Brian said, he may attempt a return, and it may not be successful, and that means LTIRetirement.

I agree though, we are in a spot where we can have a PP QB sheltered on a 3rd pair.

I'm probably one of the few around here who actually misses the little guy with gumption. Krug is a fun player when he's healthy and playing up to his potential. And always plays with heart and a chip on his shoulder, which this team needs more of. I'm rooting for him to make a comeback because no one wants to end their career like that.

and, coming from people who know him just a little, he is apparently a really good guy in real life

I never thought I’d say this but if I had to choose between the two, I’d rather have Krug on the team than Faulk next season. Like others have said, Krug as a 3rd pairing PP specialist would finally be a good role for him if we can find a top 4 RHD to bolster our unit.

Meanwhile, I don’t know what Faulk even provides for this team anymore. I’m really hoping we can move him this Summer.

With the rising cap, it's not crazy that we could trade Krug and/or Faulk for some kind of value if they look good going into the last year of their contracts. That would be huge. I don't think either is on this team when we next win a playoff round anyway.

People only hate him because he's not 6'4. he has heart and never gives anything less than 100%. Can't say that about many guys on the team right now cept Holloway and Walker. If he had size he would be a #1LD more than likely.
He’s short! That’s it. That’s unAmerican.

This team needs someone like Backes but Krug is not the answer. He has come nowhere close to playing the style of hockey he did in Boston. Total waste of cap space if he comes back.

The future is going to be interesting with Faulk. His NTC becomes a 15 team no trade list this summer and his salary is only $4.5M for each of the remaining 2 years on his deal. He has underperformed this season, but I don't think he has been a poor D man by NHL standards. I think his contract is pretty moveable, but I also don't think that the team gets better simply by getting him off the roster. I think you can get better by moving him and then spending the saved cap space on someone else, but that could also wind up being a negative or lateral move that carries financial/cap burden beyond the natural expiration of Faulk's deal. And depending on what the cap situation actually looks like next season, there is also a good argument that the team would be best-suited to use him as a really expensive 3rd pair D man (who gets used more than your typical 3rd pair guy.

I don't think he's well suited to continue playing the 22 minutes a night he's playing right now. But I also think he could genuinely contribute as a 17-19 minute guy. I don't think he needs to get relegated to 14 minutes a night to have success.

Like the 4 potential options for LHD next year, Faulk's future feels very much fluid.

I think Faulk gets moved before any of Kyrou, Buchnevich, or Schenn unless someone really ponies up for Kyrou. I think moving any of Schenn, Kyrou, or Buchnevich is going to be very volatile for different reasons.

From a veteran’s point of view I can understand it being difficult to put your body on the line for a team that is trading away talent for draft picks.

Schenn never had a problem with it, often handling the media after bad losses, among the leaders in hits, etc.

I hope a contender is able to take him on and they’re able to find a way to make a deal.

It will be nice to have a second team for the playoffs while we retool. Unless it’s the Avs. I can’t go there. Anyway, high five Brayden Schenn for being an absolute pro.

I don’t think I’ve commented on this since he was re-signed but I didn’t think the Blues should’ve re-signed Buchy for what they signed him for. He pretty clearly just exited his peak IMO and he just doesn’t fit the timeline IMO. He’s worth more in assets. If the Blues can somehow fix that and trade him now, I’d be more than good with that if there’s actually someone willing to take on that player and contract and return decent assets.

That said, I’ll be a bit surprised if the Blues sell off big pieces this trade deadline. I saw the report that said they were taking calls on Buchy, Kyrou, Schenn, Faulk etc but I think it’ll be hard to trade a guy like that with term. But who knows. Army can be a riverboat gambler when he wants to be. Should be an interesting next month until the deadline.

I don't think i've given a comment on this either and was really on the fence of resigning him in the middle of a rebuild. I'm assuming most Blues fans didn't want a complete dump and full rebuild because we all want to watch a competitive team even if they aren't making the playoffs. That being said, i didn't see this type of drop off for Buch in the cards. He seems to be a shell of the player he once was. Almost lost out there and indecisive. I really think trying him at center messed him up in the head somehow. Thinking the game too much to the point of inaction and ineffectiveness.

I don't think he has passed his peak but i do think he needs to be set straight and reset/refocused on what his job is out there. At this point, I'm sure a team would be willing to take a chance on him and trade for him because of his potential and to be honest, he may just need a change of scenery for that reset to happen. I like Buch but maybe too much was expected of him due to our lack of center depth and now it's going to be real hard to unlearn the bad habits he's acquired.

After watching games against Edm and Florida, part of me feels like we are only a couple pieces away from being legit.
