I agree, between the cap increasing significantly and Saad terminating his contract, we have plenty of cap flexibility to handle a Krug return. And if Krug does return, I think you are also right, we'll move Leddy, I think it's plausible we even move Leddy at this trade deadline.

My surprise when I saw that is kind of similar to Leddy's injury and return. It's a combo of NHL doesn't really compel teams to divulge much on injuries like say the NFL, and then our media doesn't really push as hard as some other markets might.

If, if he's healthy, he might be able to provide some value as the PP QB and have heavily sheltered assignments. The version we get back might not be healthy or back to full strength, who knows what type of player he'll be when he returns. And kind of like Brian said, he may attempt a return, and it may not be successful, and that means LTIRetirement.

I agree though, we are in a spot where we can have a PP QB sheltered on a 3rd pair.

I'm probably one of the few around here who actually misses the little guy with gumption. Krug is a fun player when he's healthy and playing up to his potential. And always plays with heart and a chip on his shoulder, which this team needs more of. I'm rooting for him to make a comeback because no one wants to end their career like that.

I never thought I’d say this but if I had to choose between the two, I’d rather have Krug on the team than Faulk next season. Like others have said, Krug as a 3rd pairing PP specialist would finally be a good role for him if we can find a top 4 RHD to bolster our unit.

Meanwhile, I don’t know what Faulk even provides for this team anymore. I’m really hoping we can move him this Summer.

With the rising cap, it's not crazy that we could trade Krug and/or Faulk for some kind of value if they look good going into the last year of their contracts. That would be huge. I don't think either is on this team when we next win a playoff round anyway.

This team needs someone like Backes but Krug is not the answer. He has come nowhere close to playing the style of hockey he did in Boston. Total waste of cap space if he comes back.

The future is going to be interesting with Faulk. His NTC becomes a 15 team no trade list this summer and his salary is only $4.5M for each of the remaining 2 years on his deal. He has underperformed this season, but I don't think he has been a poor D man by NHL standards. I think his contract is pretty moveable, but I also don't think that the team gets better simply by getting him off the roster. I think you can get better by moving him and then spending the saved cap space on someone else, but that could also wind up being a negative or lateral move that carries financial/cap burden beyond the natural expiration of Faulk's deal. And depending on what the cap situation actually looks like next season, there is also a good argument that the team would be best-suited to use him as a really expensive 3rd pair D man (who gets used more than your typical 3rd pair guy.

I don't think he's well suited to continue playing the 22 minutes a night he's playing right now. But I also think he could genuinely contribute as a 17-19 minute guy. I don't think he needs to get relegated to 14 minutes a night to have success.

Like the 4 potential options for LHD next year, Faulk's future feels very much fluid.
