CGY +5
VAN +4
BLUES +2
UTAH -1

I think the Blues are sustainably better than Calgary and Utah from here to the end of the season. The question is Vancouver. The Blues are playing a gauntlet right now including one against Van and two on the road against Utah, so it's the right time to be playing this way and the right time for Van to be faltering.

This is another aspect to the Petterson thought process. It's super difficult to imagine an in season trade from one team trying to make the playoffs for the final spot trading a big player to the team battling them for that spot.

They are a mess.

Definitely but odds are they eventually will gather themselves the question is when
I’ve been listening to a lot of NHL Network radio and Vancouver consumes 20% of the oxygen every day. Consensus seems to be that the dressing room issues are irreparable and someone is going. Tide is now leaning towards Miller because of his age. Saying Boeser will be dealt. Hughes doing his best to keep a fractured room together but it’s not happening. We’ll see what happens before the 4 nations. I would take the Blues over any of these teams at the moment, honestly.

I can see some future where Vancouver makes one big change then comes alive a bit, but I think I like Stl’s chances even then.

Utah is a trip tho. I dunno how they’re gonna end up.

If you check out their depth chart it’s so many guys. On top of that, the handful of expiring contracts - there’s so many of them but there really isn’t anybody due for a raise besides McBain getting a little more. The majority of the expiries are ufa filler pieces that had signed shorter term deals. Their goalie spend is currently 4.6mil total.

It’s like they’re primed to bring in one giant contract.

Then you look at their prospects and there’s a whole bunch of forwards.

They’re going to have to do something sooner or later. There’s only so many forward roles on a team and I don’t see how you can audition like 5 guys at once in perpetuity. Really hard to guess how they finish the next few seasons.

I think we’d be in some trouble if Utah used some of its future to invest in their group. They can offer very nice things and still have nice things left over after. There’s already so many; Cooley, Macelli, Hayton, Doan, Guenther, McBain, etc. I also think maybe the team that deals with them might get access to talent that usually isn’t available.

For sure some good content here, especially for newer Holloway fans like myself. Thanks for posting!

Blues have good team chem.

Good thing we didn't jettison Schenn earlier in the season like many fans wanted to do. That line has great chemistry.

It often takes veterans a lot longer to get going. Remember how ROR would look terrible for a few months before turning it on.

Holloway starts asking not to talk about offer sheets, proceeds to get like 5 questions in a row about them.

If Holloway comes and does a show with any of our groups we should not ask about the offer sheets probably. I bet that question is impossibly annoying for him at this point. He’s said everything he can possibly say on the issue.

The difference between being an elite team and a bubble team is only about a 7-8 game swing each year. If you can win those 7-8 close games instead of losing them, you’re at the top of the league. And that difference might only be 1-2 players. This makes me think Army might be a buyer this year. If we had a legit #2 center right now, we’d be extremely dangerous.

Who had Holloway with more points than Buchnevich more than halfway through the season? The Blues top forwards (Thomas/Buch/Kyrou) are way too streaky. Buch has not had his hot streak yet, and Thomas has already been hot/cold since returning from his injury. If these guys could get to where they consistently score the Blues would be in good shape. The chemistry on the 2nd line looks good. They need to find the 3rd piece that works with Thomas and Buch. I would expect we will see Saad back with them tomorrow. It would also be nice if they could find a good trio for the 3rd line. I would expect we see Neighbours - Sunny - Bolduc/Texier tried again. It sucks that Dean got injured as he could have been looked at for 3C. Maybe they should just run Walker as the 3C and give Sunny a night off.

Thomas has had 2 instances of going pointless in more than 1 game, a 2 game drought and a 3 game drought. Since his drought when Thomas was hurt, Kyrou has been very consistent.

Agree on Kyrou. His chemistry with Halloway is huge. I’m hoping Halloway can keep it going. Thomas will definitely heat back up soon. Last year his numbers were great, but he had some hot streaks and cold streaks mixed in. It was nice to win the two against CGY with his line not producing.

I’m confident that we have some internal options to fill the trigger role on one of Thomas’s wings. It’s been slightly frustrating that Bolduc hasn’t been given a crack with his ability to shoot the puck but between Snuggy and Stenberg I think whoever gets that role next yr will be given an amazing opportunity. I think one of the 4 top winger roles will be earmarked for one of the kids. It will be exciting to see what Thomas can do with a genuine shooter of the puck like Snuggy. I’m inclined to give Thomas a bit of a pass right now…Buch has been off all year and both Neighbors & Saad are not ideal wingers for him.
