VAN +4
BLUES +2
UTAH -1

I think the Blues are sustainably better than Calgary and Utah from here to the end of the season. The question is Vancouver. The Blues are playing a gauntlet right now including one against Van and two on the road against Utah, so it's the right time to be playing this way and the right time for Van to be faltering.

This is another aspect to the Petterson thought process. It's super difficult to imagine an in season trade from one team trying to make the playoffs for the final spot trading a big player to the team battling them for that spot.

Reactions: Bye Bye Blueston
Definitely but odds are they eventually will gather themselves the question is when
I’ve been listening to a lot of NHL Network radio and Vancouver consumes 20% of the oxygen every day. Consensus seems to be that the dressing room issues are irreparable and someone is going. Tide is now leaning towards Miller because of his age. Saying Boeser will be dealt. Hughes doing his best to keep a fractured room together but it’s not happening. We’ll see what happens before the 4 nations. I would take the Blues over any of these teams at the moment, honestly.

I can see some future where Vancouver makes one big change then comes alive a bit, but I think I like Stl’s chances even then.

Utah is a trip tho. I dunno how they’re gonna end up.

If you check out their depth chart it’s so many guys. On top of that, the handful of expiring contracts - there’s so many of them but there really isn’t anybody due for a raise besides McBain getting a little more. The majority of the expiries are ufa filler pieces that had signed shorter term deals. Their goalie spend is currently 4.6mil total.

It’s like they’re primed to bring in one giant contract.

Then you look at their prospects and there’s a whole bunch of forwards.

They’re going to have to do something sooner or later. There’s only so many forward roles on a team and I don’t see how you can audition like 5 guys at once in perpetuity. Really hard to guess how they finish the next few seasons.

I think we’d be in some trouble if Utah used some of its future to invest in their group. They can offer very nice things and still have nice things left over after. There’s already so many; Cooley, Macelli, Hayton, Doan, Guenther, McBain, etc. I also think maybe the team that deals with them might get access to talent that usually isn’t available.
