I think he has been there the whole time…just as the 3rd goalie.

With Welsh and Helvig leaving Sumarah finally gets his chance two years after that stellar playoff performance.

New goaltending recruit Ben West started today. I guess they will be splitting time this season

Good weekend for the Huskies, despite playing without Allison and Gentile. I believe they are going to be UNB’s biggest challenger this season.
Depending on the goaltending they get I honestly think they are pretty evenly matched , I was saying to someone that if Helvig or Welsh was back they might be my pick to finish first in the conference .

1.UNB
2.SMU
3.UDEM
4. UPEI
5.St.Fx
6.Acadia
7.Dalhousie

I think UPEI is better than some might think… I also think UNB and SMU are very evenly matched and clearly the top two teams but I give the advantage to UNB based off goaltending.
3-6 seems like a total crapshoot .

I have the same order.

I know UNB lost a lot of talent…and SMU underachieved last year and added maybe the best “recruit” in the conference in Gentile…but there was a 29 point spread in the standings between them last year. That’s a huge gap to close to even make it close in the standings. Not saying it can’t happen, but I’m not counting on it.

I think Moncton may have the best 1-2 goaltending punch in the league, which should keep them in almost every game.

UPEI youngsters should continue to improve.

I don’t think X is as good as last year.

Acadia looks like they might be better but not sure it’s enough to overtake the X-Men. Someone needs to finish 6th…

Dal is in for another rough year I’m afraid.

A couple surprises around the conference this weekend - Acadia sweeping their Quebec road trip, including a 5-0 win in U.Q.T.R. this afternoon…and SMU dropping both games at home.

I was surprised that the Huskies lost both their games. Didn't watch but it looks like the goaltending wasn't the best. A lot of fans thought they underachieved last season. Not sure they will do better than third.

Have to take Moncton for second place at this point. Had a great game against X last night 8-0.

It's exhibition, folks. Several of SMU's starters didn't play against Waterloo. I didn't see the Concordia game, so I have no comment on that. Of course the AUS website doesn't have stats that I can find.

Good showing by the Axe this weekend on the road. Looking forward to seeing them soon.

Since doing live stats isn't mandatory for exhibition games, a lot of the schools forgo doing them to save a bit of cash on games that usually don't bring in a lot of income to start with. I like doing them anyways because it gives me practice and I know some people are always looking online for live results during games.

I thought X looked slow and pretty bad on Saturday night, part of that was on us for outplaying them but still. I knew they'd have a rough time this year with losing their entire top 6 but didn't think it would be that bad.

Question for you. Has Les Aigles played in Tracadie before? It seems like such a small community to host a game.

SMU sat 6 regular forwards in the Concordia game.
West did not have a strong game....at all.

I see Les Aigles as being the strongest challenger to UNB this season. They didn’t lose any big players and now probably have the best goaltending tandem in the AUS.

I have SMU in third place with potential to challenge for second. A lot depends on goaltending.

Four through six I have UPEI, Acadia and X. But those positions could flip flop easily.

I would be absolutely shocked if Dal doesn’t finish last again.

My thoughts with reg season starting this Wednesday

24-25 predictions...
  1. UNB
  2. UdeM
  3. SMU
  4. UPEI
  5. StFX
  6. ACA
  7. DAL
Predicting 1 & 2, maybe 3, to be close competitively. 4 through 6 to be a toss up. DAL will be DAL.

UPEI will be my dark horse this year. I don't think that the Panthers are at all in the same elite level convo as UNB or UdeM, but they showed some signs of life last season that they're tough to place against. They are my pick to steal/upset an important game or two against the Reds or les aigles.

Predicting UdeM or X at home to break UNB's streak first

5-1 SMU over UPEI

Stopped by the game in Charlottetown tonight. Home opener for UPEI, even though it was played at the morgue (Eastlink Centre).

Pretty even through 20, although UPEI looked sloppy/disjointed. Pearson left part way through the first....looked like an uncomfortable bump he took and never returned. Panthers showed some life early in the second but the wheels fell off unfortunately.

Stand outs...for UPEI, really like how McFarlane plays. Gritty, tough to play against. Gentile looks good for SMU. Panthers had trouble slowing him down off the rush.

First top 10 came out the other day.
How many weeks in a row for UNB?

Moncton only other AUS team in top 10, I realize it’s no longer voters but SMU should be nationally ranked in my opinion. I’d take them over Udem, just my two cents and I think I’m a bit higher on the Huskies than most .

Moncton with the 3-1 win over UPEI tonight. Managed to watch most of this one while simultaneously watching the ball game. The Panthers actually outshot Les Aigles 25-21 but couldn't bury their chances. Orr and Pearson were out of the lineup for the Panthers. The game was at the Eastlink Centre which provides a much better video than their campus rink.

Olivier Adams got the win for Les Aigles. I wonder if freshman netminder Nathan Darveau will get the start against UNB in the big game on Friday?
