While the season is most likely gone, didn't we just see with the Vancouver Cannucks that it was a very good decision to bring in Tocchet mid-season to lay up the groundwork, and then the Canucks hit the ground running when the season started.Good hire for them but their season is lost. They should have enjoyed the high draft pick and waited until next summer to hire him so they get the new coach boost to start next season.
Look at Bouchard giving up on the 2nd goal. Incredible
The NHL could teach the world a lot about recycling.
The injury is called OZS. It stands for Own Zone Symptoms. It is a very weird injury where you only feel extreme pain when the puck is headed TOWARDS your own net. A milder form of this disease occurs when the player lacks a great deal of effort again only when the puck is headed towards your own net. Some coaches have tried prescribing benching as a remedy to both these cases but quickly found that it is usually incurable. It is very sad.
I don't know, usually the new coach boost is a real thing and for a team trying to make the playoffs those extra points can help to get over the hump....also the Wings' rebuilt sure could use a top 3 pick in the upcoming draft. While the season is most likely gone, didn't we just see with the Vancouver Cannucks that it was a very good decision to bring in Tocchet mid-season to lay up the groundwork, and then the Canucks hit the ground running when the season started.
New coach boost is something you might be looking for if the season is still salvageable. At that point, it most likely doesn't even matter who the coach is.I don't know, usually the new coach boost is a real thing and for a team trying to make the playoffs that's those extra points can help to get over the hump....also the Wings' rebuild sure could use a top 3 pick in the upcoming draft.
They didn't tank long enough to get a sufficient number of high guys IMO.
They didn’t really hand the room over to outsiders. They pinned the C on Larkin and (I think) the A on Seider. And I don’t think anyone in there is a disruptive presence, on the contrary, they brought in plenty of guys who are generally regarded as good in the room. Much as I’ve made it clear I think Kane is a human shitstain, he’s generally well-liked by his teammates.
The team IMO simply isn’t good enough. Way too many past-their-prime stars and depth guys, coupled with abhorrent goaltending, and a coach who’s in waaaaaay over his head. And the top guys aren’t really good enough to carry them. Larkin is damn good but not a game breaker, Mo is a legit top defender but he needs some help. They desperately need Kasper and Cossa to graduate and start making an impact.
I think you can win with Larkin on your top line but your 2C better be fairly good. Compher/Copp are brutal options and always were.I tend to agree more with your take on them. They've missed out on getting someone who could force Larkin to the second line. That was the key after getting Mo.
I do think the Copp/Compher 2C expirament has failed as well.
Then as you say, Goaltending, and coaching. It may actually be fixable. It would be risky, but they should probably be trying to pry Petty out of Vancouver.

I will never understand the Wings signing Copp to play 2C, seeing him struggle in that role, then thinking the right handed version of Copp would be the solution in Compher.
They deserve what is happening to them. Yzerman has made shitty move after shitty move since being hired and more and more it's looking like his scouts rather than him were behind the success in Tampa Bay.
Stevie confuses me. Why did he look so damn good in Tampa but not Detroit? From what I read, he brought quite a few of the Tampa Bay folks with him. Anyways, whenever I watch them play and I look at that roster, I have no idea what Detroit's gameplan is. I'm not sure they have one right now.Of all people I would have thought Mr Y felt safe enough not to rush a rebuild.
Signing JTC was so fkn stupid.
Their entire fanbase knows he's done exactly that too lol.

We've always known Avalanche hockey is supposed to be up-tempo, breaks, rushes, and waves of attackers and entirely, way, way, way too much overpassing. But what is Detroit hockey? What is Steve trying to build? It just makes no sense.
Could this meme die already? Also that no state tax, and sunny weather combination helps.
Oilers are literally the Stanley cup favorites and they still get blocked by NMC from some players.Could this meme die already?
No-one talked about taxes 15 years ago, when the California teams were at the top of the league and both Florida teams continuously missed the playoffs.
Sure. But they were also able to get free agents for cheap this summer.Oilers are literally the Stanley cup favorites and they still get blocked by NMC from some players.

You know what helps? Winning. Look at Edmonton, they were able to actually sign Arvidsson and Henrique for dirt cheap this off-season, and they got Jeff Skinner too for cheap. Why? Because those guys thought Edmonton would be one of the top contenders.
Somewhere out in the Pacific, a discarded Mike Babcock is floating on an amorphous island of former players family pictures. It's like those Ball Aluminum ads.
75% of all hockey coaches ever produced are still in circulation today . . .
With taxes, it goes like this: with high paid star players, they don't care. They can have different contract structures and can afford to hire an accountant, to make the tax difference negligible. Auston Matthews is a good example, he pays taxes to Ontario from the base salary of 800k. His signing bonuses? He gets them while he's in Arizona. The tax difference makes difference for the players making smaller salaries, but those players in general have less of chance to pick their teams in the first place.
Every individual player has a different tax certificate, so those have floated out ideas about balancing the cap somehow, it ain't going to work. It would be completely impossible to make a fair system. What if a player plays for the Flyers but lives in New Jersey?
That's acceptable in my opinion. I retract my statement. He actually wasn’t sure if the puck went in and was turning up-ice to go on offense.
Not sure if that makes it better or worse as he literally coasted defensively and then got a speed burst when there was a chance to go back on offense.
