Eh, I watched the hit, it's borderline for sure but I didn't think it was illegal, and I'm super-nitpicky when it comes to hits. He raises the shoulder as he comes in but Knies is also ducked down a bit, so I could see a call there but I'm okay with that one being declared clean. And there's been comparisons to the Trouba hit, but like I said before there are elements to that one that I think DO make that one illegal...though I'll admit I'm not a Trouba fan at all.
Head is principal point of contact - or does that not count anymore? For me that's a headshot and I think that whether it is or isn't as far as the league is concerned seems to depend on who is doing the hitting and who is doing the receiving - which is a massive joke.

The fact that the golden turds got a PP out of that is stupid and ridiculous.

Didn't look like it was the principal point of contact but maybe I need to see it again.

@Pokecheque this guy gives Leclaire a run for his money injury wise.

Epic debut for Askarov with the Sharks.

@Balthazar come get your mans

Goalies are such a crap shoot.

They'll be a highly touted prospect. Then shit the bed in the NHL. Then dominate the minors and work their way back to the NHL in their late 20's. Then be one of the best goalies in the NHL. Then end up in the AHL again. Then retire early.

Like how the f*** can you gauge their ability at all? Track records seem meaningless.

In this specific scenario, I was just teasing @Balthazar because he was an advocate of trading for Askarov.

The kid actually had a great debut. He stopped 29 of 31 shots (.935 save percentage) and was generally excellent.

Your point still stands; they’re a crapshoot. Projecting goalies is very difficult.

J.T. Miller just up and left the team because he was burnt out? Am I understanding that correctly? The same guy who was apparently pushing EP into being more engaged?
Maybe he has a nagging sleeping problem that he needs to fix?

Boy I can't believe I of all people am going to bat for J.T. Miller but...we don't know what the story is. I'm just going to wait until they disclose more but I imagine it's a pretty big f***ing deal if he feels the need to leave the team. Dude may be a loudmouth prick but I don't think he would just up and walk away from the team because he was all butthurt.

I think it's similar to pitchers in baseball, especially when you factor in injuries.

I think the only way you can do it is to hedge your bets, which the Avs have not done. I like the fact that they've not gone overboard with their investment in a netminder since Varlamov, but I can't stand the fact that they've been downright lazy and cheap when it comes to developing a goalie in-house. It's like they only came to their senses and started actually trying THIS YEAR. That way at least maybe there's a chance you get some excess contract value for a bit, maybe even get a legit franchise netminder out of it; but either way, putting as many goalies in the organization as possible and just have one or two really good goalie coaches seems to be the way to go.

The one thing I don't think I'd ever do is go full term on a goalie, especially if it's a high AAV. 3-4 years max.

If Askarov becomes the superstar he projected to become in his draft year I swear...

I'll forever remember that he was right there, available for cheap, on ELC, and we didn't pay what it takes to get him.

Edit: Button in his final rankings in 2020 had him at 6:
