Trying to decide who to cheer for in this Edmonton/Dallas game:

Okay, so the Leafs first tried to get Marner to waive his NMC as part of a Rantanen deal, and then offered picks and their two best prospects?

Marner must be pissed because he actually played really well tonight against the Avs.

I’m biased so I would definitely take Rants over Marner but that’s just wild to me. As I understand it the time to trade him would’ve been the offseason before that NMC kicked in, and Dubas probably would’ve done so if Shanahan hadn’t fired him, in the ensuing chaos they missed their chance.

Leafs should never make that trade. Absolutely terrible for them. Mikko isn't going to move the needle for them.

They need defenseman who can move the puck. So bad. Also they need defensemen with speed. They are way too slow.

Marner looks like their best player. Especially now that Matthews is semi-injured.

Chicago will sign Georgiev next off-season. Just to make sure they keep on sucking.
In all seriousness Chicago will more than likely try to build their team as fast as they can from now on. They were playing a dangerous game with tanking as much as they did and now it reflects on Bedard's play/motivation and the fear of becoming Buffalo 2.0 is real.

We've heard what Jones had to say after his last game with the Hawks. It's not good.

Bedard has his own problems. He is not fixing his own issues. Team issues are other worry.

He needs to get physically stronger, quicker.. work harder on the ice. No more lazy plays. Defend properly. It's crazy how many weaknesses he has.

These problems come with shitty tanking teams. Remember Eichel in Buffalo?

Bedard is in a worse situation, he literally has no top 6 talent to play with.

I’m inclined to agree with you, I’ve said many times the minute they decided Rielly was their #1 was where it all went wrong.

That said, total playoff stats (GP/G/A/P) for both players are shown below. You can probably guess which is which, and it’s not even close.

And yes I know one of them has played a lot more postseason games but…the totals kinda tell a little bit of the story there too.

I've said it for years, the Leafs core will never win because they wilt in the playoffs.

Matthews and Marner produce less than their regular season averages by a large margin, Tavares by a small margin and Nylander is the only player who maintains his regular season pace come playoff time.

I like me some Willy Nylander but if he's your best player in the playoffs, you aren't winning.
