Another Rempe suspension incoming.

Elbow through the head.

He just can’t help himself. It’s not even the “he’s clumsy” or “he’s too big” type of plays. He seems to go out of his way to hurt guys. Scummy ****.

It seemed like he might have a good thing going too when he first came up. Became an instant fan favourite and probably could’ve kept that going even if he eased up with the fights. Now he’s just playing stupid.

I don't know if that's dirty. Might need to see a different angle, but it looked like Blankenburg was going to grab the puck and turn around the corner, where Rempe would have hit him square, but he just stopped and played the puck, so Rempe missed the hit.

I think that's more reckless and a lack of awareness than dirty. Probably suspension worthy though.

Aw man, I freakin' joked. But this might have been the most enjoyable ESPN presentation of hockey I've seen this year.

I mean, my spanish absolutely sucks, but I still got some of it and their voices and tones matched the play so much better than what I'm used to with Altitude. Really seemed like a true "national" game with the broadcast just talking about the game in play and not making a heck of a lot of commentary outside of it. Again... that could just be my poor language skills.
Nunca vamos a encontrar un centro de segunda línea
که دا هغه څه نه وي چې زه یې فکر کوم، نو زما غاړه ووهه او ما ته سالی ووایه.

<edit... don't think the translation comes out quite the same... I was trying to say, "Well slap my ass and call my Sally!" That was exactly what I was thinking."

Would you be that shocked to know that I've actually tried off an on to learn pashto for over a decade?

Much the same reason I try to keep my absolute shit Spanish and French up to date... I want to ensure that no matter where I sober up and find myself, I can still ask where to take a leak, where to find a beverage, and if they have the hockey game on.

[PS... Just how messed up was my attempt? I hope it wasn't so bad I was insulting. It's never been my goal to defile anyone or anything other than myself.]

Pashto is wild. Arabic is almost impossible for non-native speakers because there are letters you need an absurd amount of practice to get right let alone perfect. It's not hard, it's just tedious but once you get it, it actually makes so much more sense to speak.

Starting the day a team is mathmatically eliminated from the playoffs, the points they obtain go towards giving them a heavier odd at the first overall draft pick. Rewards losers for still trying and could potentially sink teams built to tank from getting a top three pick.
It’s a cool concept but I wonder the ramifications of trades. As fans we’d likely see a lot less action around the deadline as holding decent players would then help poor teams move up in the draft lottery.

Until there are absolutely no points given out to losing a game, none it really matters.

The one big change I want is to move towards the gold plan for the draft.

That's an interesting concept.

One thing to consider, teams can actually make trades after the deadline, the players just can't play in the playoffs for them.

So you might actually see non playoff teams keep their own players and load up with rentals after the deadline, just to win games for a higher draft pick. That would be wild.

Would make it harder for teams just outside the playoffs to crawl in too, because those games against eliminated teams would be pretty tough.

You lot posting all these Pettersson stats are absolutely shocking to read. Elias is too talented to be this bad, it's like he gave up or something.

Shit for brains

You can actually see in the second part of the replay that he’s getting ready for the elbow but then tucks it back in. Probably thinking « elbow time! Awww shit, can’t hold out the chicken wing from this far away. Let me tuck and flare it back out »
Nah, he's just too tall for everyone else and gets into these dicey spots. Yes, he should know better, but his elbow is seriously at the same level as all these players' heads.

There are times where I think I speak better if I don't know the written language. If I just concentrate on the words verbs, nouns etc I find vocabularly alone is often enough for folks to realize that I am trying. Obviously, what I wrote was nothing more than me typing something into a google translater. I would have no idea how to have created that thought from scratch in pashto.

Best I could have done would have been to basically say, "Hello, my name is ET and am I'm an alcoholic. Do you hockey?"

Holds no water to me.

You are giving a GM a decision. Does he want to fight for a higher draft pick or does he want to sell and suffer the consequences.

All this does is ensure a team like Edmonton will never receive a decade of #1 overall draft picks and do f*** all with each and every one of them.

All of these things sound like a feature and not an issue.

Talent is only one part for the equation for an NHL hockey player though. Lots of players are talented. Wolski was talented, but he lacked the drive, and competitiveness to battle through tough situations.

If EP gave up, that's part of the problem.

I don't think EP is a bad hockey player, but I do think he's more of a 70-80 point guy, than a 100 point guy most years, and that makes him pretty overpaid at $11.6M. Statistically that's what he's been in his career.

My argument is that if you make the NHL, your work ethic is already in the 99th percentile. Elias had to work his arse off to get to 11.6 million dollar contract. However, Miller having more points than he has shots is playing yourself out of the league sort of nonsense. It can't be a vision or IQ thing because he had enough to get 11.6 million. I agree with you, that he's more of an 82 in 82 player for me, but that's still a damn good player if you'd ask me. That's still in the 1-2% of the best hockey players in the world, but he's playing worse than Cody Ceci. Some people just switch off when they get a loaded contract though, I can understand the human nature component of it. I have worked with some blokes who had an insane work ethic to get a job, but when they started they were lazy AF. He might just be a contract year sort of player.

Yeah, I don't know if all NHLers are in the 99th percentile for work ethic, especially the super talented ones, but I get what you're saying, and agree for the most part.

EP would be a great 2C at like $8M or so IMO.

As a 1C with that contract, it's a two fold problem though, because the overpayment brings lots of cap problems, and as a 1C that may disappear when things get tough, that's a problem for winning in the playoffs.

So I was just settling in the watch the Red Wings Blue Jackets game. I was actually excited. I watched the last match-up, and it was a fun game. These two teams are tied in the standings and fighting for the chance to get into the playoffs for the first time in many years. There's a good chance only one will make it, and whoever wins this game would have a strong advantage, and may even creep into the top 3 in their division.

Then after the first period I turned it off. I just couldn't believe how incredibly terrible the commentary was. Ray Ferraro, one of the best in the business, was on color, and he was fine. But my god Sean McDonough was awful. I think he actually called the play two or three times in the whole period. The rest of the time he was reading off stats, recapping the last game, talking about players, telling stories - it was like he wasn't even looking at the game. At one point, he was talking about a Detroit scoring chance in the previous game while Columbus was in the middle of a two-on-one scoring chance. Poor Ferraro was doing his best - pointing out which players took shots or made plays, because when McDonough actually bothered to call the play he usually just said Detroit or Columbus rather than the players names.

Man, I don't think I'll ever complain about Moser again, now that I've seen how bad it can get. It was honestly worse than pre-season commentary.

I don't know if any of you watched that whole game. Did it stay that bad throughout?

McDonagh is hands down the worst PxP guy in pro sports. This guy must have some serious connections because he's awful at what he does. For him to be the lead national PxP guy is a crime.

Your observations about McDonough is pretty common for baseball announcers, where they need to fill a lot of time in between action. Hockey isn’t like that though. McDonough used to do MLB. He’s been doing hockey for a while now though.
